You can dress as a dinosaur for this Guinness World Record attempt in Calgary

10 April 20263 Mins Read

If your weekend plans don’t currently involve dressing up as a dinosaur and attempting to break a Guinness World Record, you might want to reconsider. On Saturday, April 11, 2026, the University of Calgary will host a community event packed with live music, free food, and one very important goal: getting as many people as possible dressed head to toe as dinosaurs.

Rex’s Jurassic Jamboree

At 11 a.m. in the Taylor Family Library Quadrant, the University of Calgary officially kicks off its Guinness World Record Attempt, and that’s when things start to get interesting.

Participants are encouraged to show up in full dinosaur costumes to help set the record for the largest gathering of people dressed as dinosaurs.

To qualify, costumes must include a dinosaur headpiece and full-body coverage and clearly represent a real dinosaur. Dragons, monsters, and fantasy creatures will, unfortunately, not be included. So if your dinosaur is easily recognizable, you’re probably good to go!

And showing up to the event early has its perks; if you’re one of the first 500 people in costume, you’ll receive a dinosaur rally towel.

Anyone looking to participate in this event is encouraged to register online in advance so organizers can track participants and ensure everyone is counted toward the record.

Even if you’re just there to watch, it’s worth stopping by to see the chaos unfold.

Community Day at Main Campus

The Guinness World Record attempt is just one part of a much bigger celebration. Community Day marks the University of Calgary’s 60th birthday, with a lineup of events perfect for everyone.

The day will feature free food, live music at the Calgary Stampede Community Stage, trivia at the den, and a variety of pop-up activations set throughout the campus.

It’s designed as a welcoming, flexible event where people can drop in, explore, and take part in celebrating the university’s major milestone.

It’s not every day you get a chance to participate in a Guinness World Record attempt involving dinosaurs on campus, especially one that comes with free food, live music, and a full day of activities happening everywhere you look.

When: Saturday, April 11, 2026
Time: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Main Campus – 2500 University Dr. NW, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: Free
