You can watch a traditional powwow and shop an Indigenous market at this Calgary celebration

Heritage Park in Calgary is celebrating National Indigenous History Month with a full lineup of programming that centres Indigenous voices and brings forward stories. traditions and cultures throughout a variety of meaningful experiences across the park.

Culture, music and celebration across the park

On Sunday, June 20, 2026, Heritage Park will have a full day of Indigenous History Month Programming across the park, bringing together culture, music, and community experience in one place.

According to Heritage Park, the day will begin with a traditional powwow, bringing together live drumming, dancing, and afterwards, visitors are invited to join a drop-in experience from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants will have the chance to learn basic powwow steps while connecting to the rhythm and spirit of the dance.

If you’re looking to get some shopping done while you’re there, head over to the Indigenous Market, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The market showcases artisans, makers, and small businesses, giving you the chance to find something unique while supporting Indigenous entrepreneurs.

A major highlight of the event is the Campfire Chats, which takes place in the evening and features musical storytelling and a celebration of Indigenous music and culture.

One of the more meaningful parts of the experience includes observing Tipi Holders as they raise a painted Tipi Lodge. It’s a quiet opportunity for visitors to learn through observation as each step reflects tradition, knowledge, and care.

And once the sun goes down, the Gasoline Alley Museum will transform into a late-night, sober celebration filled with DJ sets, dancing, and tons of energy.

What to know before you go

Programming throughout Heritage Park is included with general admission or a Heritage Park membership, making it easy to explore all the different experiences happening across the park throughout the day. Self-indentifying Indigenous guests also receive free admission, helping ensure the programming is accessible to the community it’s honouring.

Whether you’re there to learn, reflect, or just take in the atmosphere, the programming at Heritage Park creates a space where culture is shared, celebrated, and experienced in a way that feels both engaging and meaningful from start to finish.

Cost: General Admission starting at $27.95 (Free for self-identifying Indigenous individuals), After Party, $14.95
