You can watch ‘Jaws’ while floating on an Alberta lake this summer

29 June 20263 Mins Read

If you’ve ever wanted to feel like you’re in a real-life Jaws movie, this is your chance. Jaws at the Lake is coming to Sylvan Lake this summer, bringing an outdoor screening of the classic film right to the water. As the sun starts to set, a massive movie screen takes over the beach, and you’ll find people setting up blankets and lawn chairs or floating on the water, all trying to get the best view before the movie starts.

A movie night on the water

Jaws at the Lake is not just a single movie screening; it’s more like a summer hangout that happens to end with a movie. Things will kick off early in the evening at 5 p.m. with local food trucks on site, so you can grab dinner and settle in before the screen even lights up.

There will also be music, lawn games, and other lakeside activities throughout the evening. As showtime gets closer, people start picking their spots on the beach or even floating on the water.

The night will show two movies, starting with the more family-friendly option, Shark Tale. It’s a pretty easy watch to kick things off, especially if you’re planning to bring your kids or you just want to catch something earlier in the night before it gets busy.

At around 9 p.m., right as the sun starts to set and the crowds start to settle in, Jaws will take over the main screen. As it kicks off, you’ll hear the iconic spooky soundtrack, and it starts to feel like you’re fully immersed in the movie.

What to know before you go

Jaws at the Lake takes place at Sylvan Lake on Saturday, July 18, 2026, and it is completely free to attend. The event will kick off at 5 p.m., with Shark Tale playing at 6:30 p.m. and Jaws starting at 9 p.m.

It’s a good idea to arrive early if you want a solid viewing spot, especially since the beach will fill up closer to showtimes. If you’re planning to watch from the beach, bring a blanket or a lawn chair and if you’re planning to lounge out on the water, bring a floatie so you can stay comfortable while watching the movie. Either way, the setup is extremely laid-back, so you can pick whatever spot works best for you before the screen lights up.

So whether you’re on the shore or out on the water, you’ve got a clear view of the big screen, and thankfully, there are definitely no real sharks in the lake.

When: Saturday, July 18, 2026
Time: 9 p.m.
Where: Lakefront Park, Sylvan Lake, Alta.
Cost: Free
