10 Calgary spots serving sandwiches that are anything but boring

8 September 20264 Mins Read

There are very few foods that hit quite like a really good sandwich. Whether it’s piled high with deli meats and cheese, stuffed with crispy chicken or loaded with fresh veggies and sauces, Calgary has no shortage of spots serving up sandwiches worth getting your hands on.

From classic Italian subs to Montreal-style smoked and loaded creations you’ll be thinking about long after lunch, these are some of the city’s top-rated spots to grab a sandwich.

Named Calgary’s Best Sandwich Shop in Avenue Calgary’s 2026 Reader’s Choice Awards, Scozzafava’s Deli is clearly doing something right. The 17th Avenue spot offers Italian favourites like the Italian Combo, Chicken Parm, and Meatball Sub, along with a range of hot and cold subs.

Where: 1004 17th Ave. SW, Calgary, Alta.

When your breakfast craving calls for more than a muffin, Bro’kin Yolk Express has you covered. The express concept extends the popular Calgary brunch spot Bro’kin Yolk, and the location serves delicious breakfast sandwiches loaded with toppings. Each one is served on a soft potato bun, making these handhelds a pretty delicious way to start the day.

Where: 4820 Northland Dr. NW, Calgary, Alta.

If you like your sandwiches messy, saucy, and seriously filling, Alumni Sandwiches is the place for you. Its menu is packed with hearty creations like its Hot Chicken, Rosemary Beef Dip, and Chicken Parmesan sandwiches that are hard to pass up.

Where: 725 17th Ave. SW, Calgary, Alta.

If you’ve lived in Calgary for a long time, chances are you’ve heard of Spolumbo’s. The longtime Inglewood deli has been a Calgary staple for decades, and its sandwich menu is just as iconic.

Where: 1308 9th Ave. SE, Calgary, Alta.

Myhre’s Deli has been bringing a little taste of Montreal to Calgary since 2002. The deli is best known for its smoked meat sandwiches, which you can order in four different sizes on rye, with your choice of mustard. Each sandwich comes with homemade coleslaw and a kosher dill pickle on the side.

Where: 1411 11th St. SW, Calgary, Alta.

If you’re picky about what goes between your bread, Lazy Loaf and Kettle is the place for you. Its build-your-own-sandwich menu lets you choose everything from the bread and meat to your cheese, veggies, and condiments, so you can create your ideal lunch.

Where: 8 Parkdale Cres. NW, Calgary, Alta.

If you haven’t tried a Vietnamese sub from Thi Thi yet, add it to your lunch plans. The longtime Calgary spot is known for its crispy baguettes and flavour-packed fillings, with the Sate Beef and Sate Chicken among the popular picks.

Where: 209 1st St. SE, Calgary, Alta.

Meat and Bread keeps sandwiches simple and does them extremely well. The Potchetta is the signature order, piled with roast pork, crackling, and salda verde, while the Alberta BBQ Beef and meatball sandwiches are also fan favourites.

Where: 821 1st St. SW, Calgary, Alta.

With a sandwich menu this big, you might need a few visits to work your way through Peppino Gourmet Foods. The Kensington deli has more than 42 Italian sandwiches to choose from, so you’ll have no shortage of options when you’re trying to decide what to order.

Where: 1240 Kensington Rd. NW, Calgary, Alta.

Uncommon Drip has become quite the popular spot in Calgary this year, and its wood-fired sandwiches are a big reason why. The Edmonton Trail cafe has a menu of creative handhelds packed with flavour, making it a great stop when you want lunch with a little more personality.

Where: 802 Edmonton Trl., Calgary, Alta.

Calgary clearly knows how to put together a good sandwich. With so many local favourites and creative takes to choose from, we’re pretty lucky to have this many good lunch options around the city.
