August is in full swing, and Edmonton is packed with great things to do this week and beyond. From festivals to movie nights, there’s no shortage of great events in the area.

This week presents loads of things to do in the city. Whether you’re looking to go out with friends, check a market out with family, or do something fun with a loved one, we’ve got tons of options for you. Seriously, you’re definitely going to find something you enjoy.

Without further ado, let’s get into the great events lined up.

If you’re familiar with Fort Edmonton Park‘s Where Dark Things Dwell, its highly anticipated sequel has arrived.

Teams of four will work together in this escape “room” experience to solve puzzles, uncover clues, and complete challenges throughout the park’s 1885 Street, racing to break a mysterious curse before time runs out.

When: Now until Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026
Time: 6 and 8:30 p.m.
Where: Fort Edmonton Park — 7000 143rd St. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Cost: $35

The summer brings back the best deals at the Metro. It started on June 2, and it’ll last throughout the summer, meaning $5 Tuesdays are officially back at the theatre.

When: Every Tuesday now until the end of August

Cost: $5

MaKami College is excited to host its annual free Community Pancake Breakfast on its Edmonton campus on Thursday, Aug. 13. The breakfast will include pancakes, fruit cups and refreshments, as well as free seated massages and a kids’ area with games, face painting, a balloon artist and prizes.

When: Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026
Time: 9 a.m. to noon
Where: East Parking Lot, Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre — 8330 82nd Ave. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Cost: Free

This tour is a live pit tour to some of the most iconic pits of the Wîhkwêntôwin neighbourhood. Led by Stephanie Swensrude of Taproot Edmonton, the tour should take approximately one to one and a half hours, and after, you’ll learn a bit more about these pits: why they form, what they do to a neighbourhood, and how they can be fixed.

Time: 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival is ranked as one of the top five Fringe Theatre Festivals in the world, standing next to Edinburgh, Scotland, and Adelaide, Australia. According to its website, it’s also the largest and longest-running festival of its kind in North America.

Since 1982, it’s only grown more and more, and continues to flourish as one of Edmonton’s most iconic festivals.

When: Thursday, Aug. 13, to Sunday, Aug. 23, 2026

Located at Salisbury Greenhouse in Sherwood Park, this market comes around every Thursday, rain or shine. You can find a wide variety of offerings here, no matter if it’s food, trinkets, or something entirely different.

When: Every Thursday
Time: 4 to 7 p.m.
Where: 52337 Range Rd. 232, Sherwood Park, Alta.
Cost: Free

124th Grand Market takes over the streets on Thursdays. Each week, there is a selection of over 60 rotating vendors with fresh produce, handmade goods, and trinkets, as well as food trucks that are going to satisfy your taste buds in every way.

When: Every Thursday now until Oct. 18, 2026
Time: 4 to 8 p.m.
Where: 108th Avenue and 124th Street, Edmonton, Alta.
Cost: Free

All aboard the High-Level Streetcar for the Street Car Cask series, where folks hop aboard the historic streetcar and take sips from exclusive brews — made just for these trips. As you experience a scenic ride above Edmonton, you’ll be able to enjoy the brews from Alberta’s finest.

When: Every Thursday
Time: 6 and 7:20 p.m.
Where: 10910 100th Ave. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Cost: $63.10+

Just west of Edmonton is Stony Plain, and they’re showing off Smurfs this summer. Grab your lawn chairs and blankets because they’re bringing the magic of the forest to the big screen under the stars.

Where: 5100 41st Ave., Stony Plain, Alta.
Cost: Free

The Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival Association (EDBFA) was formed in 1996. They host an annual festival each year during the third weekend in August, rain or shine. This competition and festival promote the sport of dragon boating in the Edmonton area, as well as bringing food and drink vendors, not to mention merchandise, to the park for the celebration.

When: Friday, Aug. 14, 2026 to Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026
