10 magical Ontario towns that feel like stepping into a snowy Christmas love story

10 December 20255 Mins Read

Oh, the holidays! Though Valentine’s Day is the most romantic day of the year, there’s something about the holiday season that carries its own soft, unmistakable romance. If you’re looking for something lovey-dovey to do this holiday season, why not explore some of the most romantic villages and towns in the province? From cobblestone roads and historic buildings to country charm and lakeside views, these cities and towns in Ontario are not ones to miss.

We’ve compiled a list of the most romantic cities and towns in Ontario, and here’s what we’ve found:

Romantic cities and towns in Ontario

Almonte, Ont.

Welcome to Ontario’s “friendly town”! Get ready for a big dose of winter vibes in the charming and picturesque Almonte. The town’s historic Mill Street is so vibrant this time of year, so we don’t blame you if you snap a few hundred pictures.

The scenic mill town on the Mississippi River near Ottawa is full of shops, restaurants, and elegant inns, making it the perfect weekend destination. Plan ahead!

Blue Mountain Village, Ont.

Its cobblestone-filled streets and turn-of-the-century architecture make Blue Mountain Village a desired destination. Romance is definitely in the air here!

This destination has tons of shops and restaurants to check out, as well as year-round activities and outdoor attractions of all kinds. You can enjoy the gorgeous snowy scenery by taking one of the many hiking trails and biking paths in the area. Or, you could reach new heights and get your thrills at the same time on the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster!

And that’s not to mention all the festive fun Blue Mountain’s Holiday Magic experience offers this time of year.

Dundas, Ont.

Also known as “The Valley Town”, Dundas is nestled at the foot of the Niagara Escarpment, surrounded by vast forests and sparkling frozen waterfalls – when the time is right, of course. It’s a sight to see!

Go out and stretch your legs along one of the many hikes and lookout points in the region. Once you’re done with your lovely adventure, make your way into the quaint town for some boutique shopping and a bite to eat. It’s a wonderful romantic day trip.

Elora, Ont.

Ontario’s “most beautiful village” is calling your name! When it comes to gorgeous scenic views and historic charm, especially in the winter, Elora is the place to be.

Take a peek inside the adorable boutiques that line the streets of this quaint destination, and if you’re in the mood to spoil yourself, you can visit the iconic Elora Mill & Spa for some relaxation. This town just screams romance.

Goderich, Ont.

Did you know that this small town in Ontario was named the “prettiest” in Canada by none other than the late Queen Elizabeth II? So of course, you know you’re in for something special.

Goderich, Ontario, is a small coastal town situated on bluffs with a gorgeous view of Lake Huron. The town is known for its almost turquoise-blue beaches (three in fact) and a very charming historic downtown. In the winter, it offers some incredible views! This is the perfect day trip destination for those seeking a peaceful escape.

Pakenham, Ont.

Leave the concrete jungle for a day and explore Pakenham. Though it’s known for its Hallmark background, according to Ottawa Tourism, you must check out its one-of-a-kind bridge in North America. Its landmark, the Five Span Bridge, is also “believed to be the only one of its kind in the world outside of Russia,” states the municipality.

Paris, Ont.

Dreaming of a European escape? No plane ticket is needed; just head to Paris, Ontario, where old-world charm meets small-town magic.

In its own Canadian way, this town really does live up to its namesake. It features cobblestone, historic buildings, artisan boutiques, and views of the Grand River that will make you feel like you’re wandering along the River Seine. In fact, this town is known as the “cobblestone capital of Canada” because it is a hub of aged cobblestone homes and structures. And it’s all extra dreamy in the winter. How cool is that?

Perth, Ont.

Here’s another gem! Often called one of the “prettiest towns in Ontario,” this spot is more of a hike from the Toronto area than the ones previously mentioned. But it’s totally worth the drive.

The blend of historic 19th-century architecture and the serene parks and waterways gives Perth a postcard-like atmosphere — the town has worked hard to preserve its heritage feel over the years.

St. Jacobs, Ont.

If you want to go on a scenic day trip and knock out some errands while you’re at it, then you have to hit up the adorable Village of St. Jacobs, located in the Township of Woolwich.

Steeped in rich Mennonite heritage, St. Jacobs is home to the largest population of Old Order Mennonites in Canada, according to the St. Jacobs Market.

Unionville, Ont.

You don’t have to travel far outside of Toronto to find a small town, rich in heritage and charm.

Actually, you don’t even have to leave the GTA! Unionville is an incredible spot to spend an afternoon, and it’s absolutely wonderful. It has heritage buildings and a main street that will make you feel like you’re on the set of a Hallmark movie. Que the romance!

The town is so picturesque that even Gilmore Girls filmed its pilot here (talk about a throwback). Winters make it much more charming.

Have an adventure in the name of romance!
