1973 Soft Rock Ballad, Reimagined by Kelly Clarkson, Became One of the Eagles’ Most Celebrated Songs

Kelly Clarkson once worked her magic on a fan-favorite Eagles track.

Widely considered to be the queen of covers, Clarkson is known for giving artists a run for their money with her powerhouse vocals and impressive musical arrangements — and when it comes to her 2023 cover of “Desperado,” she certainly lived up to her reputation.

During the “Kellyoke” segment on a December 2023 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the “Since U Been Gone” songstress took on the Eagles’ 1973 soft rock ballad “Desperado,” once again leaving her fans floored with her extraordinary vocal talent.

With an enchanting, stripped-down version of the song, Clarkson’s cover — featuring her show’s music director Jason Halbert on the piano — received extremely high praise from her fans.

“This is my all-time favorite Eagles song and Kelly absolutely killed it,” one user wrote in the comment section under a YouTube video of the performance, which was flooded with messages from tons of awe-struck fans.

“I cannot stop listening to this amazing version,” one user gushed, while some users in comments even tried begging Clarkson to record and release an official cover of the beloved Eagles track.

Released in 1973, “Desperado” was the title track on the Eagles’ second studio album. It was never released as a standalone single, but that hasn’t stopped it from becoming one of the most celebrated tracks by the Glenn Frey and Don Henley-fronted band.

In fact, “Desperado” has been ranked as one of the top songs from the Eagles discography, according to multiple music magazines. Rolling Stone ranked it at No. 4 on a 2019 roundup of the Eagles’ best songs, while Billboard gave it the No. 2 spot on a similar list published in 2023.
