'90s Rock Band Announces Unfortunate News Amid 2026 Tour

12 March 20263 Mins Read

Unsane had some unfortunate news for the fans on Thursday.

The rock band announced on Instagram that the opening night for the European leg of their Occupational Hazard Tour has been cancelled by the venue. The show was set to take place on Friday evening at Molotow in Hamburg, Germany, and was supposed to kick off Unsane’s first tour on the continent in three years.

“Unsane regrets to inform our friends in Hamburg that the promoters have unexpectedly canceled tomorrow’s show. :(,” the band wrote on their Instagram a day before the show.

The venue has so far not commented on the sudden cancellation. According to Motolow’s official website, they are set to host The Haunt on Thursday evening.

Back in December, Unsane announced the tour dates for their Occupational Hazard Tour, which was supposed to start this Friday in Hamburg and conclude in Prague on April 13. They are also set to make stops in various cities in Sweden, Poland, France, the United Kingdom and more. As of now, their show in Malmö, Sweden, at Plan B is still scheduled for this Saturday.

Three hours before the sudden announcement, the group revealed the North American leg tour dates, which will take place this September and October around the United States and Canada. The world tour is to support the extended reissue of their 1998 album, Occupational Hazard, which was released on Feb 6.

Unsane is an American noise rock trio that was formed by Chris Spencer, Charlie Ondras and Pete Shore in New York City in 1988. The three original members met while they were students at Sarah Lawrence College, and were a big part of the metal scene in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan throughout the early 1990s.

Over the past 38 years as a group, the band has gone through many lineup changes and hiatuses, but has so far released eight studio albums, three compilations and three live albums. Its current lineup now includes Spencer, Eric Cooper and Jon Syverson.

In honor of the 30th anniversary of their 1998 album, Occupational Hazard, Unsane released a remastered version of the record, which includes 13 of the original tracks plus six demos. Back in 1998, Occupational Hazard was the first album the group released with Relapse Records. Though that should have been a cause for celebration, a complicated recording process, a grueling touring schedule and a major physical assault on Spencer took a major toll on the singer and guitarist.

Looking back to when they recorded the album at Excello Studios in Brooklyn more than three decades ago, Spencer told New Noise Magazine last month that there were “a few hurdles” during the recording process.

“We recorded it at Excello with Billy Anderson. It’s a really grassroots, kind of raw studio. A lot of the equipment was really old. The board was crackling and [explicit] like that. Some [explicit] had to be cleaned and fixed to even get the recording decent,” Spencer explained. “So we recorded it in this really raw way and then got the rough mixes from Billy, who had gone back to San Francisco, and we’re like, ‘Oh, what the [explicit], they sound really mushy.'”

Unsane’s next show will take place at Plan B in Malmö, Sweden, on Saturday, then at the Hush Hush Club at Jonkoping, Sweden, the next day. Tickets for Unsane’s Occupational Hazard Tour can still be purchased on Ticketmaster.
