‘The Pioneer Woman’ Star's Heartbreak After Storm Damages Beloved Family Homestead

8 September 20253 Mins Read

A star of Food Network’s The Pioneer Woman opened up about their heartbreak after a storm struck the family ranch, destroying a spot which reminded them of a beloved family member.

In a new video posted to the family’s YouTube channel, Drummond Ranch, Ladd Drummond shared the aftermath of a storm that affected the land surrounding the family’s Pawhuska, Oklahoma homestead. One particular spot was “sad to lose,” said the family patriarch.

“It is kind of sad to lose some of these trees and branches in here because my mom always loved this spot,” Ladd said of the area where his family’s home is built. “This is where we grew up.”

“She always loved it because of the trees; we had quite a few trees in the yard,” he continued. “We’re probably going to have to start planting some more trees, because we’ve been losing a few, and sometimes on the prairie, it’s hard to keep trees.”

Nan Drummond, mother of Ladd and Tim Drummond, died in 2018. Legacy.com shared details of her life in an obituary, and friends and family were invited to plant trees in her memory to honor her memory.

Ree Drummond, star of Food Network’s The Pioneer Woman, spoke about how much Nan loved the family homestead in a blog post. “She loved the ranch, and she loved the creek behind the cemetery. Her oldest son was buried there, so it was always a special place for her.”

In May 2018, Ree shared a tribute to her beloved mother-in-law on Instagram. “Nan. My mother-in-law, my husband’s mom, my children’s grandmother, and my friend. We lost her last night, and I’m not sure any of us know quite what we’re going to do without her. She was magnificent.”

Nan’s mother, Edna Mae, died four months after her beloved daughter said an obituary. Ree wrote in a Facebook post, “She was here for my mother-in-law Nan’s battle with cancer, by her side until the day she died. Nan needed her mom when she started to get really sick, and Edna Mae was there for her.”

Nan was survived by her husband, Chuck Drummond. Paw-Paw, as he was affectionately known by the family, died a little over four years after his wife in November 2022. They are both buried in the family cemetery on the Drummond ranch with their son, Todd.

New episodes of The Drummond Ranch are ongoing on YouTube. The Pioneer Woman airs on The Food Network.
