Lego confirms it’s working on a Star Trek: The Next Generation set

9 September 20252 Mins Read

Lego has been catering to Star Wars fans since 1999, when the tie-in to the release of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace kicked off a collaboration that would lead to some truly massive and expensive sets and a whole line of video games. Now, Lego is appealing to a different subset of sci-fi fans by diving into the world of Star Trek.

Lego revealed that a set is in the works with an Instagram post set in the Enterprise’s transporter room. While the transporter begins resolving a full-size human, it winds up just beaming aboard a smiling minifigure of Star Trek: The Next Generation Captain Jean-Luc Picard. I guess we’ll have to add shrinking to the risks of transporter travel alongside creating a duplicate of yourself and fusing with another crew member.

The post uses #StarTrek60, which means the set probably won’t release until 2026. The first episode of Star Trek: The Original Series aired on Sept. 8, 1966 (which is why Lego shared the news on Sept. 8) and Lego is joining other celebrations of the 60th anniversary, including a Caribbean cruise with William Shatner and a Las Vegas convention.

Speculation that Lego was making a Star Trek set has been brewing for months since an image leaked of the Enterprise-D displayed alongside figures of The Next Generation crew including Picard, Commander William T. Riker, Worf, Doctor Beverly Crusher, and Lieutenant Commander Data with his cat, Spot. It’s somewhat surprising that the first set reveal is for the 1987 show rather than The Original Series, but it fits with Lego’s nostalgia plays for Gen X and elder Millennials. It’s likely Captain Kirk fans will get their own set soon, though personally I’m holding out for an enormous model of Deep Space Nine.
