Mark Kendall has some good news to share. The Great White guitarist, who announced his stage 4 kidney cancer diagnosis last year, revealed that his latest scans show major improvement — and fans couldn’t be more relieved.
Kendall, 68, posted an encouraging update on Facebook on Saturday, January 10, confirming that his treatment is still working.
“I wanted to share some great news on my health situation,” he wrote. “When this started the tumor in my kidney was 13 centimeters. My first scan revealed it shrank to 11. The 2nd one it went to 8 centimeters. I just had a ct scan 2 nights ago and it’s now 5 centimeters with no sign of disease spread anywhere else. This is fantastic news that I’m managing the tumor and the immunotherapy treatment is working!”
Kendall’s treatment, immunotherapy, “uses the body’s immune system, usually your own, to attack cancer,” according to the American Cancer Society, and it has become an important option for treating advanced cancers like kidney cancer.
The rock legend finished his update by sending appreciation to his supporters, writing, “Thank you everyone for your prayers and good wishes, it’s working!”
Fans celebrated the news, sharing more words of encouragement. “Hallelujah Mark! You don’t have time for this in your life right now! Love the good News… Keep rocking,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “Prayers are being answered Mark. Thank God for this good news. Prayers continue!!”
A third commenter echoed the sentiment, writing, “Congratulations Mark ! All the best.”
When Kendall first announced his diagnosis last year, he made it clear that, though cancer isn’t always curable, his case is “manageable.”
“I have the best doctors in the world and one of them invented immunotherapy which is the treatment I’m on,” he said. “I only had to do 3 radiation treatments which is a good thing! To be clear, I don’t need any financial help but I’ll take prayers & encouragement!”
“I’m gonna fight this thing and be okay,” he added. “People in my support group were diagnosed with my exact issue up to 20 years ago, so that is encouraging! Blessings All!”
The 68-year-old revealed his diagnosis a year after former Great White frontman Jack Russell passed away at 63. Russell had stepped away from the stage only weeks earlier because of his own health challenges.
“To my fans and friends, It is with my heaviest of hearts that I must announce my retirement from the road,” Russell wrote on social media at the time.
“After a recent diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) in May 2024, I am unable to perform at the level I desire and at the level you deserve. Words cannot express my gratitude for the many years of memories, love and support. Thank you for letting me live my dreams. You have made my life a wonder. Love, Jack Russell.”
