Fort Edmonton Park is offering horse-drawn wagon rides and ghost hunts this season

13 January 20263 Mins Read

Hop on board the wagon and get ready to explore the past — Fort Edmonton Park is ready for you this winter.

Fort Edmonton Park is a living history museum, where guests can immerse themselves in the past. Located in the River Valley, this park delves into Edmonton’s rich and diverse heritage, as well as offering unique experiences tied to the land and paying tribute to our Indigenous roots.

In the park, there’s a variety of different events you can participate in, as the majority of the historical buildings are closed for the season. This winter season has an excellent slate of activities, so let’s get into it.

What to expect

There’s the Indigenous Peoples Experience, which will be open on Saturdays and Sundays only. Here, you can explore and learn about the diversity of First Nations and Métis Peoples. Admission to the park to experience this showcase is $20 for adults and $12 for children and youth.

Additional workshops are available, like the Inuit Starburst Face Pin workshop on Jan. 17, which costs $35 (including admission to the experience itself).

Going into February, the park is hosting its Indigenous Storytelling Series. Three Indigenous storytellers will curate this cultural experience, connecting stories of the past with conversations today. Tickets include admission as well as the program, and all proceeds from this program directly support Indigenous programming in the park itself.

If you can’t wait, every Sunday and Wednesday up until Mar. 15, the park will be hosting its Paranormal Tours.

Two options are available for these tours: the Firkins Featured Investigation and the Fort Featured Investigation. These tours are authentic, and the experience cannot guarantee any paranormal interaction. Though, as a bonus, if a building is “quiet,” other buildings may be visited. Tickets are $67 per person.

Or, if you aren’t into the scary spooks, the park is also offering Winter Wagon Rides.

In this one-hour experience, you can be dragged along a horse-driven wagon in the gorgeous river valley. Even though hot chocolate is included in this experience, make sure to dress for the cold! Tickets are $27.67 for adults, $12.30 for youth, and free for children two and under.

This excellent slate of events and activities will make for a perfect day at Edmonton’s premier historical park. Make sure to book your tickets ahead of time, and make the most of this winter season.

Where: 7000 143rd St. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
