Meliá Hotels International has announced plans to open nine new hotels in Malta and Gozo over the next three years, following the November 2025 opening of Hotel Ben Marsalforn Affiliated by Meliá.
Meliá Hotels International has announced the development of nine new hotels across Malta and Gozo, scheduled to open over the next three years. The expansion is being carried out in partnership with Agius Group and its hospitality division, Blue Clay Collection.
The new portfolio will include properties under the Meliá Collection, INNSiDE by Meliá, Affiliated by Meliá, and Meliá Hotels & Resorts brands. The announcement follows the opening of Hotel Ben Marsalforn Affiliated by Meliá in Gozo in November 2025.
The projects will involve a mix of new developments and restorations. In Valletta, the capital of Malta and a UNESCO World Heritage site, a property under the Meliá Collection is planned. On Gozo, two hotels are scheduled to open in Victoria, the island’s main town, as well as another in San Lawrenz, a village on Gozo’s north-western edge.
Additional Affiliated by Meliá hotels are planned for the Gozo towns of Għarb, Qala, and Ghajnsielem. These properties will join the Meliá network while maintaining independent operations.
The INNSiDE by Meliá brand will debut in Malta in spring 2026 with a hotel in Buggiba, located on the shores of St. Paul’s Bay in northern Malta. The Buggiba property is intended to serve both business and leisure travelers.
A 300-room Meliá Hotels & Resorts property is also set to open in St. Julian’s, a town on Malta’s eastern coast. According to the announcement, several of the new hotels will include conference and event facilities to support the islands’ meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector.
The nine new hotels are expected to increase the company’s presence in Malta and Gozo, adding to the region’s accommodation options. The timeline for the openings extends over the next three years, with the most recent scheduled opening being the Hotel Ben Marsalforn Affiliated by Meliá in November 2025.
The expansion is being carried out through a partnership between Meliá Hotels International and Agius Group, which aims to develop properties in Malta’s town and village centers. The new hotels will be located in a range of urban and rural settings across the islands.
No further details on the total number of rooms or specific opening dates for each property were provided in the announcement.
