5 shot in Northwest DC after fight breaks out on Metrobus
Five people were injured in a shooting after an argument that began on a Metrobus during rush hour spilled out onto the streets in Northwest D.C.
At this time, police are still searching for the shooter. FOX 5’s Shomari Stone has the latest.
WASHINGTON – Five people were injured in a shooting in Northwest D.C. Thursday evening, according to officials.
D.C. Fire and EMS says all victims were taken to the hospital for treatment, conscious. They are expected to be ok.
What we know:
According to police, officers responded to Military Road, NW, and 16th Street, NW, at 5:40 p.m. for a report of a shooting.
The police investigation has shut down the 5900 block of 16th Street, NW, from Missouri Avenue to Oglethorpe Street, NW, as they investigated the mass shooting.
D.C. police chief Jeff Carroll says the trouble started on a Metrobus, when a verbal argument broke out. The bus driver stopped, and then the people who were arguing got off.
They then began to fight on the sidewalk near 16th Street, NW, and Missouri Avenue, NW. That’s when a man pulled out a gun and fired several rounds, hitting five people — two teens and three adults.
Investigators say they collected multiple shell casings and additional evidence as part of their investigation.
What we don’t know:
Police have not yet released details on the suspect in this shooting. They are reviewing bus for surveillance video.
Detectives are asking anyone who was at the bus stop where the fight and shooting broke out to call them at 202-727-9099 or text an anonymous tip to 50411.
