Movie Monday: ‘Mercy’ 97.5% Likely to Win Box Office, Best TV Shows to Binge Watch

26 January 20262 Mins Read

If you’ve seen the first Avatar, you’ll know that the Resources Development Administration tried and failed to defeat the Na’vi.

Amazon, on the other hand, had no such issue.

Granted, it wasn’t a very impressive win. Amazon’s Mercy acquired the first-place spot at the box office this weekend with just $11.1 million from domestic audiences (international numbers are not currently reported).

No one can say Avatar: Fire and Ash didn’t go down swinging, though. It took five weeks for another film to steal that top spot from James Cameron’s moneymaker. And even six weeks in, it still hovers in second place with an additional $7 million. That brings its domestic earnings to $378.5 million. Worldwide, the Pandoran Empire (name pending) has collected $1.4 billion.

As for movies that refuse to leave the boxing ring, our next two should be familiar competitors by now. Zootopia 2 took third place with $5.7 million, raising its domestic cume to $401.4 million and its worldwide total to $1.7 billion. The Housemaid, meanwhile, also maintained its fourth-place spot from last week: It cleaned up $4.2 million. Domestically, the movie has earned $115.5 million. Overall, that number rests at $217.9 million.

Finding itself outmatched by these veteran box office competitors, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple saw its way from second place to fifth. Its profits crumbled 71% as compared to last week. This time, it took in just $3.6 million with American audiences, marrowly avoiding falling out of the top five altogether. Its domestic earnings rose to $20.8 million. Worldwide, the movie has made $46 million.

Still, The Bone Temple performed better than a couple of newcomers. Return to Silent Hill found itself fogged out of a win in seventh place. Grossing just $3.3 million in its debut, perhaps a Shibu Inu really was controlling the whole thing.

And much further down the list, H Is for Hawk discovered that T is for “twenty-sixth place.” That is, of course, where the movie debuted, after sinking its talons into a mere $149,000.
