Minor Hotels has announced the appointment of Winston Gong as General Manager of Avani Kota Kinabalu. The hotel is planned to open in Q2 2026. Gong will oversee the operations of the 352-key property, which includes 22 suites, a range of food and beverage outlets, and meeting facilities. The hotel is integrated with The Logg development in Luyang and is located approximately 13 minutes from Kota Kinabalu International Airport.
Gong’s recent role was General Manager of Crowne Plaza Phu Quoc Starbay. His previous positions include senior leadership roles at Holiday Inn Sydney St Marys and Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley. He has also managed pre-opening and renovation projects in the region.
Avani Kota Kinabalu will offer a Chinese restaurant with an adjoining Tea Room, an all-day dining venue with international cuisine, a lobby lounge, and a SEEN Rooftop Bar. Additional amenities include a rooftop infinity pool, a 24-hour gym, and four meeting rooms. The hotel is well positioned to accommodate both leisure and corporate guests, with access to retail and dining options and convenient airport access.
Gong will be responsible for managing the hotel’s operations, including its food and beverage offerings and meeting facilities.
