After a heart-stopping second season that left the staff of Joaquín Sorolla Hospital in total chaos, Netflix has confirmed that Breathless (known as Respira in Spanish territories) will return for a third season. Here is everything we know about the future of the Spanish medical drama.
Since its debut in August 2024, Breathless has quickly cemented itself as one of Netflix’s rare successes in the medical drama genre. Created by Carlos Montero—the mastermind behind Elite—the series has successfully filled the gap for a high-octane medical procedural, often described by fans as a Spanish Grey’s Anatomy with the adrenaline of Elite.
Following a dramatic Season 2 drop on October 31, 2025, fans have been clamoring for news on the fate of the Joaquín Sorolla staff, and while there had been reporting on a renewal, it’s now official despite the massive drop in viewership between seasons 1 and 2.
Has Breathless been renewed for Season 3?
Official Renewal Status: Renewed (Last Updated: November 2025)

Yes, Breathless is officially returning. Netflix announced the renewal in February 2026 via a social media post.
That said, news outlet Teleaudiencias, a WordPress blog, reported in November 2025 that the series had secured a season 3 renewal. That said, they incorrectly reported that Olympo had been renewed for season 2, when it was ultimately confirmed to be canceled. Another outlet, La Razon, also reported on a possible renewal in November but provided few details.
Season 3 of Breathless is expected pick up right where the drama left off. After the shocking attack by a troubled patient, everyone is wondering: will Jessica be okay? Meanwhile, May is facing heartbreak after losing custody of her baby — how will she move forward? And it’s not just personal lives hanging in the balance. Big political decisions have put the hospital’s future at risk, leaving doctors and staff unsure of what’s coming next.
In the teaser, we can hear:
“I’m not sure what to do with this. I’m sorry. I’m not going to be able to get my attention.
I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Father, I’m sorry.
I’m sorry.”
Spanish outlet AreaJugones was pretty eviscerating with their write-up about the renewal, calling the show one of the biggest flops in Spain in recent years. Their report suggests that season 3 may have been filmed alongside season 2, even stating, “A new batch of episodes will arrive on the streaming platform over the next few months.”
Netflix has not yet issued an official press release regarding the renewal.
How well did Breathless Season 2 perform on Netflix?
Was the outlet right to point out the show being a flop? A little.
Season 2 of Breathless ultimately didn’t hit quite as well as the first season, with viewership ultimately dropping 57% by its second week, which is when it fell out of the top 10s. Breathless Season 2 spent 2 weeks in Netflix’s global top 10, amassing 30.3 million viewing hours and 4.4 million completed views, compared with the season, which spent 5 weeks in Netflix’s global top 10, amassing 103.5 million viewing hours and 16.2 million completed views.
By the end of 2025, according to the Netflix Engagement Reports, the series had reached 55.3M hours watched and 8.1M views.
The show ranked in the weekly top 10s in Spain for 4 weeks, down from the 9 it held in season 1. Season 1 ranked in the weekly top 10s in 69 countries; in the second season, that dropped to 32.
