Every ‘Extraction’ Movie and Spin-Off Coming Soon to Netflix

Few franchises have delivered the kind of eye-watering viewership numbers quite like the Russo Brothers’ AGBO-produced Extraction films and Netflix is going all-in over the next few years with sequels and spin-offs coming up. As three are currently in production or soon to be in production, here’s a look at what’s coming up over the next year or so.

What started as a gritty, sweat-soaked Chris Hemsworth action flick in 2020 has officially ballooned into a massive cinematic universe. We’ve only had one sequel to date, which came in 2023. Both, at one point, at least, occupied spots on Netflix’s all-time most-watched list, although both have been unseated by newer titles. In its first 91-days, the first Extraction picked up 266.9M hours watched, equating to 135.7M views. The sequel followed almost the exact same path, picking up 278.7M hours watched, equating to 134.9M views.

Here is your fully updated look at the upcoming Extraction projects currently in the pipeline.

Status: Pre-Production (Filming begins June 2026)

Let’s start with the big one. Ever since Chris Hemsworth and director Sam Hargrave stood on stage at TUDUM back in 2023 to announce a third film, things have been relatively quiet.

Well, the wait is almost over. As we recently reported, Extraction 3 is officially scheduled to begin principal photography this coming June. Filming is expected to run through October 9th, 2026, and will feature a massive shift in scenery. While the first two films utilized locations across India, Thailand, and Prague, the third entry is heading “down under.”

Production will be primarily based in Sydney, Australia, marking a major homecoming for Hemsworth. We’re also hearing that additional filming will take place across Europe over the summer. Furthermore, trades note that Idris Elba is expected to return following his mysterious introduction as “The Man in the Suit” at the end of the second movie.

When will it be on Netflix? Given the October 2026 wrap date, don’t expect to see Tyler Rake back on your screens until sometime in 2027 at the earliest.

Status: In Production

Netflix isn’t just sticking to feature films; they’re bringing the Extraction universe to television. Mercenary is a massive, eight-episode global thriller.

Lupin star Omar Sy leads the series as a soldier-for-hire who embarks on a highly dangerous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. The official synopsis promises a lot of action, noting that he will be “trapped between warring factions and ruthless killers” while having to “navigate life-or-death choices while confronting his own deep emotional wounds.”

The Russo Brothers tapped Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead, The Shield) to serve as creator and showrunner, and he’s assembled an absolutely stacked supporting cast. Alongside Sy, the series features:

  • Boyd Holbrook (Narcos, The Sandman)
  • Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones)
  • Ed Speleers (You, Outlander)
  • Waleed Zuaiter (Gangs of London)
  • May Calamawy (Moon Knight)

Production on the action-packed series spans locations in Ireland and Morocco, with episodes directed by Louise Hooper (The Sandman) and Tim Southam (One Piece) and will wrap at the end of March.

3. Tygo (South Korean Spin-off Film)

Status: Post-Production (Filming officially wrapped March 2026)

If that wasn’t enough, the Extraction universe is also heading to South Korea. Trades just confirmed this month that Tygo has officially wrapped production.

Directed by Lee Sang-yong (The Roundup), the movie stars the legendary Don Lee (Train to Busan, Marvel’s Eternals) as the titular Tygo, a former child-soldier turned ruthless mercenary who goes on a vengeance-fueled tear through Korea’s criminal underworld after a mission goes wrong.

The project has generated massive buzz not just for Don Lee’s involvement, but for its supporting cast, which features Lee Jin-uk (Sweet Home, Squid Game) and global superstar Lalisa “Lisa” Manobal from BLACKPINK making her feature film debut. To top it all off, the trades recently revealed that Iko Uwais’ (The Raid) newly formed stunt team is guiding the action sequences, promising some of the best hand-to-hand combat we’ve seen on the platform.

4. An Upcoming Video Game Collaboration?

It’s been a moment on this one, so take it with a pinch of salt.

According to reports back in 2022 (yes, this was a while back), outlets like IGN covered the Russo Brothers’ production banner, AGBO, which struck a massive deal with Japanese game publisher Nexon. Nexon purchased a 38% minority stake in AGBO for $400 million, valuing the independent film banner at an incredible $1.1 billion.

As part of this colossal partnership, AGBO and the Russos have been in talks with Netflix to adapt Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction into a fully-fledged video game. It was in the development phases at the time and described as a stunt-heavy, action-packed game focusing on clandestine missions and gritty gunplay, which is the perfect way to expand this universe into interactive media. Nexon even stated they were ready to invest an additional $100 million into AGBO if requested, meaning they have the war chest to make this a AAA gaming experience.

That said, Netflix’s gaming ambitions have morphed so whether this ever sees the light of day remains to be seen.
