This charming town near Calgary is full of boutiques, cafes, and scenic streets

If you’re craving a little change of pace without venturing too far outside the city, Diamond Valley is the spot you’ll want to visit. Lined with locally owned shops and antique stores, it’s the kind of place where every window display feels like a little discovery waiting to happen.

A small town with big character

Diamond Valley is a hidden gem nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains just off Highway 22. With a rich history in coal mining, ranching, and oil and gas production, the area has preserved its heritage buildings while embracing cafes, boutique shops, and local art galleries.

Wandering through the streets in this town truly feels like you’re stepping into a storybook. Its relaxed pace makes it the perfect day trip from Calgary.

Outdoor adventures and scenic spots

Nature lovers will find plenty to do in the town. Anchor D Guiding and Outfitting offers horseback rides ranging from a couple of hours to a full-day adventure in the Rockies.

The Friendship Trail is a three-kilometre paved pathway that’s perfect for family strolls or a bike ride, while taking in all the views.

If you’re craving a more immersive experience, head over to Full Circle Adventures, which hosts guided plant walks, winter survival skills classes, and snowshoe tours, giving you a chance to connect with nature and learn from local experts.

Eat, sip, and snack your way through town

No trip to Diamond Valley is complete without trying out the local eats. Chuckwagon Cafe and Cattle Co. serves all-day breakfast with farm-fresh beef, and the kind of fries you dream about.

Hard Knox Brewery offers craft beers with a relaxed patio, while Eau Claire Distillery has a selection of small-batch spirits for those who want something a little stronger!

Shop local and discover hidden gems

The town is full of boutiques and specialty shops that are worth checking out. Bohemia offers locally made foods and Fair Trade fashion, while Vale’s Greenhouse has a huge selection of beautiful florals and gardening essentials.

With amazing Rocky Mountain views, historic streets, and plenty of local shops, Diamond Valley is the ultimate day trip destination. This charming town is a reminder that some of the best adventures often come in small-town packages!

Where: 301 Centre Ave. W., Diamond Valley, Alta.
