The Calgary Zoo is updating a major exhibit and you can see it this summer

1 April 20262 Mins Read

Big changes are coming to the Calgary Zoo! What was once known as Exploration Asia is getting a huge makeover and is now being transformed into Imagine Asia, a bold new space inspired by the diverse landscapes and wildlife of Asia’s ecosystems. The transformation will kick off with the summer 2026 opening of the Asia Highlands.

What to expect from Imagine Asia

The first phase of Imagine Asia, called Asian Highlands, is set to open in summer 2026 and will showcase the beauty of the Eastern Himalayas. This new habitat will feature a winding pathway set beneath a forest canopy, where guests can watch animals up close in a thoughtfully designed space.

Guests can look forward to seeing familiar faces like red pandas and snow leopards, along with a new species that will be announced later this spring. These animals will live in enriched environments, while giving visitors a chance to watch them in an immersive setting.

A new chapter at the Calgary Zoo

More than just a name change, Imagine Asia represents a complete redesign inspired by the rich biodiversity of Asia’s most iconic regions.

The goal of this transformation is to create a deeper connection between guests and wildlife, while emphasizing the importance of conservation. The updated and more dynamic habitats will give animals the chance to move and behave more naturally.

With the introduction of the new exhibit this summer, the Calgary Zoo is taking wildlife experiences to a whole new level. From refreshed habitats to the upcoming opening of the Asia Highlands, it’s shaping up to be one of the most exciting updates the zoo has seen in years.

Plus, with polar bear Yellé, recently joining the Canadian Wildlife this spring, there’s so much to check out. Whether it’s a spring visit or a summer outing, this is one of those experiences that makes you appreciate how much there is to explore right here in Calgary.

Where: 210 St. George’s Dr. NE, Calgary, Alta.
