Amazon Luna axes third-party game purchases

10 April 20262 Mins Read

Amazon Luna announced a big change on Friday that will prevent players from purchasing third-party games and subscriptions. The cloud gaming service will remove previously-purchased games on June 10th, 2026, though they’ll still be available to play on other platforms through the EA, GOG, or Ubisoft accounts players used when purchasing the title.

In line with these changes, Amazon Luna will no longer support EA, Ubisoft, or GOG’s third-party stores. It’s also discontinuing subscriptions to Ubisoft Plus and Jackbox Games, and says it will cancel active subscriptions purchased through Luna at the end of the billing cycle. Amazon Luna is getting rid of its “Bring Your Own Library” benefit as well, meaning players can no longer access titles from third-party platforms on Luna after June 3rd. The platform says it will not offer refunds for third-party games purchased through Luna.

This most recent update will prevent users from playing games outside the ones included in their Amazon Luna subscription. The service’s Luna Standard plan, which is included with a $14.99 subscription to Amazon Prime, comes with games like EA Sports FC 26, Hogwarts Legacy, Skyrim, Death Stranding, and more, while the $9.99 per month Luna Premium has an expanded library of games with Alien: Isolation, Borderlands 3, and Sonic Frontiers.

Brittney Hefner, a spokesperson for Amazon Luna, tells The Verge in an email that the service is “transitioning away from certain subscription, game store, and a-la-carte purchasing models in favor of approaches we believe work better for our customers long term.” Hefner adds that Amazon will continue to “invest in a broad range of gaming experiences,” which includes “strong third-party titles” available through the Luna subscription.
