These Vancouver employers are among the top in Canada

11 April 20263 Mins Read

Several small and medium Vancouver employers, and several more across the province, have been named among the top in Canada.

The results are from Canada’s Top Small & Medium employers, the 13th year of an annual competition that recognizes small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“Canada’s SME sector is tremendously important to the nation and is responsible for over two-thirds of the country’s private-sector employment,” the website says.

These are the Vancouver and province-wide employers that made the grade. The ranking shares some of the ways these companies reward and communicate with their employees.

Acuitas Therapeutics (Vancouver)

Acuitas, which has 67 full-time employees, hosts a strategic planning session every year, in locations like Maui, Hawaii, and Whistler, and all employees, including co-op students, are invited.

Acuitas calls itself a global leader in the development of lipid nanoparticle delivery systems. They’re located in the University Endowment Lands.

Thinkific Labs (Vancouver)

Thinkific, which is located in Vancouver and has over 270 full-time employees, offers a comprehensive health plan.

As part of that plan, employees receive “generous” mental health coverage, up to $3,000 annually.

AME Consulting (Vancouver and Victoria)

AME Consulting Group has offices in both Victoria (head office) and Vancouver and employs just over 200 people full-time.

The ranking says it is 100 per cent employee-owned and gives all employees the opportunity to become an owner through a share purchase plan.

Smith Bros & Wilson (Surrey)

Smith Bros employs over 130 people full-time, and encourages those employees to reach out and volunteer in the community. It offers a number of local initiatives and a paid volunteer day.

Aspect (Vancouver)

Aspect Structural Engineers, which employs over 50 people full-time, has its head office in Vancouver. The ranking says that Aspect “takes a thoughtful approach when employees need to care for their loved ones, offering a compassionate leave top-up of up to 80 per cent of salary for 15 weeks.”

Binary Stream Software (Burnaby)

Binary, which is located in Burnaby, hosts an employee awards presentation and a company-wide event that takes place over the course of four days, updating employees on performance and goals. There’s also a leadership Q&A.

Safe Software (Surrey)

Who doesn’t love a referral bonus? Safe Software, located in Surrey with over 283 full-time employees, encourages its employees to share opportunities with friends, offering up to $2,500 for successful new hires.

Intiveo (Vancouver)

Speaking of referral bonuses, if you thought Safe Software was generous, software developer Intiveo offers even more.

Vancouver-based Intiveo, which employs over 60 people, provides a referral bonus of up to a maximum of $8,000 per successful new hire.

Redbrick Technologies (Victoria)

Redbrick has one of the best perks of all the employers on the list, providing employees with a professional stipend, valued at up to $2,000 every two years, which can be used for a variety of purposes, including tuition, conferences, courses and other career-related opportunities.

The full ranking is available on Canada’s Top 100 Employers website.
