‘Thrash’ Surprises, ‘Big Mistakes’ Sinks, & YouTubers Continue to Surprise

We are back in action this week (apologies, I ran out of steam last week!) and ready to break down the latest global viewership numbers. This week on Netflix, a giant shark is taking a massive bite out of the English Films chart with the debut of Thrash, while Dan Levy’s highly anticipated return in Big Mistakes is unfortunately struggling to find its footing. Plus, we’ve got updates on XO, Kitty, One Piece, and the latest YouTubers making a splash on the platform. Let’s dive right in!

Firstly, let’s take a look at the weekly ranks to see if this was a particularly busy week in the top 10s or quiet in each respective category:

  • English TV Views: 42,200,000 (Rank 100 of 147 weeks)
  • English Film Views: 82,100,000 (Rank 49 of 147 weeks)
  • Non-English TV: 26,500,000 (Rank 84 of 147 weeks)
  • Non-English Film: 30,500,000 (Rank 93 of 147 weeks)

No big stories away from this week’s top 10 report, although we did just do an article celebrating the fact that HIS & HERS booted out The Night Agent S1 from the all-time top 10 with the exact same number of views.

Much like the MLB a couple of weeks ago, no top 10 figures for the Tyson Fury vs. Arslanbek Makhmudov boxing match today. We suspect we’ll get a great breakdown of those soon. It did surprisingly well in the daily top 10s in many regions, so we’re interested to see how well it stacks up.

1. Thrash Puts In A Big Week 1

Reviews be damned (again), as it turns out, people definitely wanted a big shark thriller to kickstart Netflix’s Spring movie releases. It clocked in at 37.7M views, placing it third among English movie debuts for 2026. Big thumbs up and another win for Netflix Film despite their output falling. Fewer swings, bigger hits. At least so far!

Netflix Viewership Data – 1 Week Analysis

Title Cumulative Views (1 weeks) Rank
The Rip 41,600,000 1
War Machine 39,300,000 2
Thrash 37,700,000 3
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man 25,300,000 4
People We Meet on Vacation 17,200,000 5
Joe’s College Road Trip 12,500,000 6

How about some similar movies in the same genre from the past few years? It performs favorably here, too, with Leave the World Behind as one of the only other Friday comps that rank above it.

2. Big Mistakes (Pun Goes Here) has an incredibly soft opening

Dan Levy is back and much like his movie that struggled on Netflix (10 points if you can name it) it’s a difficult one to cover given it debuted with a very soft 2.7M views. I’ve stacked up against Thursday premieres across the board, whether that’s similar crime series with a dash of comedy or even pure comedy series, and honestly, it’s hard to tell a good story. It became clear from its top 10s that it was going to be a very sluggish opening, but fingers crossed, things can improve, or that season 2 may already be out of reach.

3. XO, Kitty Remains in Touching Distance of Seasons 1 and 2

Last week, we wrote that season 4 should likely be a foregone conclusion for XO, Kitty, given that it’s remained remarkably consistent from season to season. In week 2, that’s still the case, although it’s not quite in touching distance of its prior two seasons, as week 1, and is now sitting at 89.8M hours and 20.7M views. No changes in prediction: expected renewal.

4. YouTube to Netflix Strategy Continues to Pay Off

Danny Go Coming To NetflixDanny Go Coming To Netflix

It feels like nearly half of the year for the English TV chart, we see some YouTubers who have made the jump to Netflix. Ms. Rachel was that YouTuber for most of 2025, and Mark Rober much later in the year.

This week, we’ve got two additions. On Monday, Danny Go! dropped on Netflix with a similarly small compilation of episodes and managed to have a better premiere than Ms. Rachel (5.3M views vs. 4M views Ms. Rachel got in early 2025).

That’s in addition to Salish & Jordan Matter, which, despite being added on Saturday, achieved 2.1M views. As always, their short runtime really helps them in this particular chart, and we see that as more seasons are added and viewing time is divided across all seasons, it drops off substantially, but this strategy is paying massive dividends. Who’s next!?

5. Trust Me: The False Prophet is middle of the pack for Wednesday docu-series

Another cult documentary series dropped on Netflix and has been making headlines. That landed it 9.8M views, putting it on par with Bad Influence, which is in the middle of the pack compared with recent Wednesday offerings.

More Check-Ins

One Piece Season 2 vs Season 1

This is one of several titles that’s got a LOT of interest in its performance, given there’s been so much talk about how many seasons it needs to adapt from the manga/anime. We did a huge post on this yesterday (which we just updated), including debunking/explaining the Nielsen numbers, but here’s an update as of week 5. Season 2 is roughly 19M views behind (~32%) season 1.

The Rip vs War Machine vs Damsel

This one we’ve been tracking diligently! War Machine has been in a close battle with The Rip and Damsel (the film that occupies the 10th spot on Netflix’s all-time top 10 list), and while The Rip has been left in the dust, Damsel’s spot is now firmly achievable by the end of the 91-day period (if not sooner), which lands on June 5th, 2026.

Expect Lots More Love on the Spectrum

Already renewed for season 5, it’s clear to see why – the reality/documentary series has been remarkably consistent and in touching distance to season 3. A feel-good series that is delivering in spades.
