Netflix has just announced it has officially rolled cameras on Nine Queens (local name Nueve reinas), a brand-new series adaptation of the critically acclaimed and beloved Argentine heist film of the same name. If you’re a fan of high-stakes cons and morally gray characters, you’re going to want to put this one on your radar. Here is everything we know so far about the upcoming series.
The series is being produced by LAZONA, a prolific Spanish production company behind major local hits like Ocho apellidos vascos and series like Gigantes.
The creative vision for the series is spearheaded by creators and writers Xosé Morais and Víctor Sierra, who also serve as executive producers alongside Luis Ferrón, Gonzalo Salazar-Simpson, Guido Rud, and Juan Pablo Galli. Behind the camera, Álex Rodrigo and Jorge Saavedra share directing duties. The show’s visual style is brought to life by cinematographers Andreu Adam and Víctor Benavides, with Juan Pedro de Gaspar handling the intricate production design.
Based on the iconic Argentine film originally written and directed by Fabián Bielinsky, this new Spanish adaptation shifts the action to Europe during a very specific, turbulent time.

“Set in Madrid in 2012, in the midst of the economic crisis, Marcos, a ruthless veteran scammer, crosses paths with Juan, a ruined young man who can barely support his family. What begins as a 24-hour alliance to pull off petty cons ends up becoming the heist of their lives: selling legendary forged stamps, the ‘Nine Queens,’ as authentic to a relentless magnate. The series turns these two con artists into the reflection of a country where the line between victims and scammers is increasingly blurred.”
Who is starring in the series?
The cast is absolutely packed with familiar faces for anyone who closely follows Netflix’s Spanish originals.
- Álvaro Morte (Money Heist, The Wheel of Time) will star as the veteran scammer, Marcos.
- Patrick Criado (Money Heist, Below Zero) stars opposite Morte as the desperate, younger con man, Juan.
- Jose Coronado (Wrong Side of the Tracks, The Snow Girl) will play the ruthless magnate being targeted for the massive stamp scam.
- Aura Garrido (The Innocent) joins the cast in an undisclosed role.
- Margarida Corceiro (Punto Nemo) rounds out the currently announced primary cast.

When will Nueve reinas release on Netflix?
As of April 27, 2026, Netflix has confirmed that filming is officially underway in Madrid. Given standard production and post-production timelines for a premium European series, we likely won’t be seeing this one hit our screens until late 2026 or sometime in 2027.
