Position: Theatre Operations Coordinator
Reports to: Deputy Head of School, Operations and Student Experience
Position Group: Operations
Term: Permanent full-time position

Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School:
Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (STS) is a premier co-educational day school nestled in the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains just outside of the City of Calgary on a 220+ acre campus. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, STS offers all three IB Programmes from Kindergarten through to Grade 12. In addition to the global perspective offered by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, the School offers an extensive co-curricular program in a technology-rich environment. Students take advantage of the amazing natural setting including a small pond, forest, and extensive trail system to complement their academic learning. STS combines the rich traditions from its 120 years of history with innovative and research-based instructional practices where students pursue lives of purpose, flourishing emotionally, physically, and intellectually.

Position Overview:
The Theatre Operations and Events Coordinator is responsible for the technical operation of school performance spaces and the delivery of technical support for productions, concerts, assemblies, ceremonies, community events, and special projects. The role combines theatre technology expertise, event coordination, audiovisual support, and student mentorship. This is a permanent full-time 10-month position, with occasional evening and weekend commitments in support of productions, performances, and major school events.

Core Areas of Responsibility:
• Manage the day-to-day operation of theatre and performance spaces.
• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair lighting, sound, projection, and audiovisual systems.
• Coordinate technical requirements for theatrical productions, concerts, performances, presentations, assemblies, and special events.
• Provide technical support for rehearsals and performances including lighting, sound, projection, and stage management functions as required.
• Assist with the design, construction, installation, and storage of scenery, props, staging, and production materials.
• Maintain inventories of technical equipment, tools, and supplies.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for theatre equipment and infrastructure.
• Ensure compliance with safety procedures and industry best practices.
• Provide technical and logistical support for assemblies, recognition events, graduation ceremonies, admissions events, parent events, and community gatherings.
• Coordinate event setups including staging, seating layouts, microphones, audiovisual equipment, lighting, and presentation support.
• Support livestreaming, recording, and multimedia production for major school events.
• Train and supervise student technical crews and support student leadership development.
• Support facility rentals and external users of performance spaces when required.
• Assist with budget planning, purchasing, vendor coordination, and record keeping related to theatre operations and event support.
• Collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, families, and external partners.

Qualifications and Experience:
• Diploma, certificate, or equivalent professional experience in technical theatre, theatre production, audiovisual technology, event production, performing arts management, or a related field.
• Minimum three years of relevant experience supporting live events, theatrical productions, performance venues, or similar environments.
• Demonstrated experience operating professional lighting, sound, projection, and audiovisual systems.
• Experience operating professional theatre equipment, including lighting, sound, and stage systems. Familiarity with an ETC Ion lighting console, fly system operation, and multi track digital sound boards is considered a strong asset.
• Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
• Physical ability to lift equipment, work on ladders, and perform duties associated with theatre and event production.
• Current First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification.
• Experience working in an educational environment is considered an asset.
• Experience supervising students, volunteers, or technical crews is considered an asset.
• Experience with livestreaming, video production, and digital media platforms is considered an asset.
• Knowledge of theatrical rigging and stage safety standards is considered an asset.
• Training or certification related to audiovisual systems, theatrical production, workplace safety, lift operation, or event management is considered an asset.
• Must successfully pass a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check as a condition of employment.
• Demonstrate and uphold a commitment to occupational health and safety.
