The Edmonton Group Chat: What your friends are talking about this week (April 28)

28 April 20263 Mins Read

Welcome to Edmonton’s group chat, your weekly roundup of what’s trending, what’s new, and what’s actually worth talking about. Here, we can get the hottest events and news right to your phone and group chat without any issues. If your friends are talking about it, you’re going to find everything you need to know right in this article.

With the weather starting to heat up this week, there’s going to be lots in store for you and your group chat. Without further ado, let’s get into things.

What’s trending, Edmonton?

Get busy with a lantern workshop

Ready to get your hands dirty? Well… not actually, but you know what I mean.

Local artist GABS will be holding a workshop where you’ll be creating your own Jack Rabbit lantern. Throughout this process, you’ll learn more about the lantern-making process, get a crash course in electronics, and end the class with your very own illuminated lantern.

This will be a fun girls’ night out or date night; whatever you’re looking for, it’ll fit the bill for the night.

Make the most of the weather with a walk in this botanical garden

You and your friends might want to get outside since the sun is starting to shine. This is the perfect opportunity.

Just north of the capital city is St. Albert. This is an extremely short drive, maybe half an hour away from any point in Edmonton. Here, you’ll be able to get some fresh air and walk through St. Albert’s Botanic Park.

With free entry and availability year-round, you can stroll through this five-acre park any day of the year. Now that the weather is finally starting to warm up, you can appreciate this park much, much more.

Plan what weekends you’ll be going to the farmers market with your girlfriends

If you’re like me, you cannot miss a market in Edmonton. No matter the weather, this market stands out in more ways than one.

With over 200 vendors, the St. Albert Farmers Market is the largest of its kind in Canada, and you’d definitely be missing out if you didn’t stop by. This market is officially reopening on June 6 and, starting then, they will be holding a market every Saturday, rain or shine, until October 10.

And start planning for this gaming convention in the summer

Game Con Canada is returning this June for more action. Whether it be video games, board games, TTRPGs, or something entirely different, this expo is sure to have everything you could possibly be looking for. It doesn’t matter if you’re seated and watching the main stage or gaming at one of the many booths; it’s going to be an absolute blast.

Looking to spend some time gaming with your friends instead of burning in the sun? No problem, this is your time to shine.

Or maybe you’re in need of a little summer cash

I totally get it. With school being over and heading into summer, there’s a whole lot more job opportunities opening up— and a lot more time on our hands.

Good news! Nearly 100,000 jobs are opening for young people across Canada. These job openings are a result of government efforts to give youth a boost in the job market, backed by youth employment programs.
