Pokémon Go ‘Spring Marathon’ event guide

12 May 20263 Mins Read

Pokémon Go is hosting a “Spring Marathon” event, adding Flittle, Espartha, and a new costumed Pikachu to the game. This event runs from May 12-18.

As with the other recent events, this event brings about a new Go Pass themed around the event. Since this event is about walking and moving, expect to do a lot of that in order to take advantage of this event’s bonuses.

Below we list the bonuses for Pokémon Go‘s “Spring Marathon” event, including how to get a Flittle, what the perks for this event’s Go Pass are, and more.

How to find Flittle in Pokémon Go

As part of the “Spring Marathon” event, there are two ways to get Flittle:

  • Three Flittle encounters via the basic event Go Pass (one at rank 19, one at rank 30, and another at rank 60). You’ll get an additional three encounters at the same ranks if you upgrade to the deluxe pass.
  • Hatch 5 km eggs that were obtained during this event.

As a reminder, Flittle evolves into Espartha with 50 Flittle Candy. There are no other special evolution requirements.

Flittle and Espartha can’t be shiny in Pokémon Go, yet.

Pokémon Go ‘Spring Marathon’ event Go Pass

This event features a Go Pass with 60 ranks. Notably, you can earn Rare Candy and Flittle encounters (as explained above) just by playing the game naturally. Paying $4.99 to upgrade the pass to the deluxe version will net you more encounters, two Incubators, better bonuses, and the “marathon shoes” cosmetic.

As usual with these Go Passes, there are a few milestone rewards that unlock buffs that will remain for the rest of the event period (until May 18 at 8 p.m. in your local time):

  • At rank 10, you’ll get doubled XP for spinning PokéStops. This bonus is tripled if you upgrade to the deluxe pass.
  • At rank 20, you’ll get halved hatch distance for any eggs put into Incubators.

In addition to the usual tasks you can complete to earn points in the Go Pass (catching Pokémon, hatching eggs, and winning raids), there are two more things you can do, themed around the event:

  • Explore 2 km (100 points)
  • Spin 10 PokéStops or gyms (50 points)

You can do these once per day during the event for extra points.

Pokémon Go ‘Spring Marathon’ event Timed Research

There is a lengthy Timed Research for this event, not because it has many steps, but because it’ll take you quite a bit to complete. It actually only has one step:

  • Explore 42 km (Pikachu [marathon visor] encounter)

Rewards: 21,000 XP

Spinning a PokéStop during the event period may yield one of these tasks:

  • Explore 2 km (Eevee [cherry blossom], Buneary [flower crown], Cottonee [flower crown] encounter)
  • Spin 10 PokéStops or Gyms (Eevee [cherry blossom], Buneary [flower crown], Cottonee [flower crown] encounter)
  • Spin a PokéStop you haven’t visited before (1 Rare Candy)

Pokémon Go ‘Spring Marathon’ event egg hatches

These Pokémon have a chance to hatch from any 5 km eggs obtained during the event:

  • Pichu (flower crown)
  • Togepi (flower crown)
  • Happiny (flower crown)
  • Flittle
