Hugh Jackman & Kate Hudson Musical Drama ‘Song Sung Blue’ Sets Netflix US Release

Get ready for a little “Lightning and Thunder.” Following our previous reporting that the acclaimed musical drama was on its way, it’s now been officially confirmed that Song Sung Blue, starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, is officially heading to Netflix US next month.

We can confirm that Song Sung Blue (2025) will be available to stream on Netflix US starting Saturday, June 13th, 2026.

If you’re wondering why this movie is suddenly popping up on Netflix after a highly publicized run on Peacock earlier this year, it all comes down to the newly revamped Universal streaming deal.

As we reported earlier this year, the Universal Pictures live-action “first-window” agreement with Netflix actually kicked in a year early, transitioning away from Amazon’s Prime Video at the start of 2026. Because Song Sung Blue is a Focus Features (Universal) release, it falls right into this lucrative pipeline.

Unlike the Sony Pay-1 window where Netflix gets an uninterrupted 18 months, Universal parses its window into three sections. The film spent its first four months of post-theatrical streaming exclusively on Peacock. Now, exactly four months later, it makes its scheduled jump to Netflix, where it will remain exclusively for the next 10 months before heading back to Peacock for the final leg of the deal.

You can check out our full preview of what other Universal titles are hitting Netflix this Spring here.

What is ‘Song Sung Blue’ About?

Written and directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) and based on the 2008 documentary by Greg Kohs, the film tells the stranger-than-fiction true story of Mike and Claire Sardina.

Mike (Hugh Jackman) is a recovering alcoholic and Vietnam vet who moonlights as a Don Ho impersonator. Claire (Kate Hudson) is a part-time hairdresser and Patsy Cline tribute singer. When the two cross paths at the 1987 Wisconsin State Fair, they immediately hit it off. With Claire’s encouragement, Mike pivots to impersonating someone much cooler—Neil Diamond.

The duo forms the Neil Diamond tribute band “Lightning & Thunder,” finding local fame and undeniable romance. However, the film takes a profound, emotional turn when a tragic accident leaves Claire severely injured. It shifts from a lighthearted musical romp into a deeply moving testament to resilience, marriage, and the healing power of music.

The film earned Kate Hudson an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress earlier this year, and she is backed by a phenomenal supporting cast:

  • Hugh Jackman as Mike Sardina
  • Kate Hudson as Claire Stengl / Sardina
  • Michael Imperioli (The White Lotus) as Mark Shurilla
  • Fisher Stevens (Succession) as Dr. Dave Watson
  • Jim Belushi as Tom D’Amato
  • Ella Anderson as Rachel Cartwright
  • King Princess as Angelina Sardina

Are you ready to sing along? Let us know if you’ll be watching Song Sung Blue when it hits Netflix on June 13th in the comments below!
