How to clear the Alien Ruins Angel Comb in Subnautica 2

19 May 20264 Mins Read

You handle Subnautica 2‘s Alien Ruins Angel Comb a bit differently compared to the ones you dealt with on the other side of the ocean. The mature comb has three juvenile combs hiding across the Alien Ruins region feeding viral infections into the mature comb, and while you’ve probably run across two of them in the course of exploring, the third is rather more difficult to find. You’ll need a new tool and an upgrade to clear the juveniles and handle the mature comb, so it’s not something you can do as soon as you reach the area.

Below, we explain how to clear the Alien Ruins Angel Comb in Subnautica 2.

[Ed. note: Before you dive in, be sure to open the character menu and enable all landmark signals. This will make it easier to spot the locations mentioned in this guide.]

How to clear the Alien Ruins Angel Comb in Subnautica 2

The comb in the caves 100 meters west of the Alien Ruins, about 167 meters deep, is a juvenile comb — so it has no mutations to offer you even when you do clear it. When you approach the canker blooms, they close up. You can’t deal with them using the sonic resonator. Instead, you need to upgrade it to the feedback resonator.

Once you’ve done that, target the canker blooms with a charged blast, staying far enough away so they don’t close up again. Deal with all of them in the room to clear the juvenile comb.

That leaves two more juvenile combs to clear. The next one is about 390 meters southeast of the main Angel Comb and 320 meters southeast of the Alien Ruins, near the domed Power Plant buildings with pipes connecting them. (If you get lost finding any of these juvenile combs, just follow the gigantic purple roots.) Destroy the canker blooms to clear this one, the same as before. This spot is 300 meters deep, so you’ll need the depth module for your tadpole.

The third one is 450 miles east of the Angel Comb in a section of the Cicada’s wreckage perched on a cliff. A bit of canker bloom is blocking the entrance on the northeast side, so use the feedback resonator to deal with it. Head inside, explore if you want, and then make your way down through the broken floor. You’ll end up in a long vertical cave with several canker blooms and the parasites that guard them. The feedback resonator lets you stay far enough away from the blooms that the parasites should ignore you, though. There’s also a handful of oxygen tunics spitting out air bubbles to refill your oxygen meter, so you don’t have to rush.

Destroy the blooms as per usual, and make your way out of the wreckage and back to the mature bloom. There’s a set of three more canker blooms that opened up around this one now. Destroy them to finally cure the mature Angel Comb and obtain another mutation, one that lets you see and interact with Axum technology.

Note that at the time of writing, there’s a bug preventing some people from interacting with the mutation after the adult Angel Comb opens. There’s no known way to fix this bug, so if it happens to you, unfortunately you’ll have to wait for the developers to implement a fix before you can acquire the mutation and continue.

If you’re starting out in Subnautica 2, we have a plethora of guides to help you navigate the deep blue sea. Our Subnautica 2 beginner’s guide will set you off in the right direction and our base building tips will assist in planning out your sprawling base. Don’t forget to stock up on food and water, too. (And if you want to get fancy with your food, you’ll want salt!)

If you need help finding materials, we explain how to get the sonic resonator, which you’ll want to mine tons of materials. We have guides on where to find these resources, like lead, sulfur, copper, quartz, and gold.
