Calgary is getting a DIY jewelry-making studio at CF Chinook Centre

20 May 20263 Mins Read

If you’re tired of the same old shopping trips to the mall, there’s a new creative workshop experience coming to CF Chinook Centre that feels a lot more hands-on and interactive than your usual stop.

The Gem Studio is set to open its first Calgary location inside the mall, offering an immersive jewelry-making experience where you can design your own custom pieces.

Although there is no official opening date yet, this spot already feels like it’ll be super popular for a girls’ day, date night, and celebrations of all kinds.

A hands-on jewelry workshop experience

At the Gem Studio, it’s less about buying jewelry and more about making something that feels personal to you.

You’ll go through a guided silversmithing workshop where you sit down and are shown how to design and build your own piece from scratch. It might sound intense, but it’s actually very beginner-friendly and easy to follow, so it’s quite fun once you get into it.

You can make anything from rings and bracelets to pendants, earrings, and more. And if you’re feeling extra ambitious, you can try making a bolo tie, keychains, cufflinks, and even pet collars!

They also offer permanent jewelry, which has been really popular lately. These are dainty bracelets or chains that are welded on as a little keepsake for moments of friendship or for something you want to remember.

The Gem Studio already has locations in Toronto and New Brunswick, but this will be its first-ever location in Alberta, making it a pretty exciting addition to the city.

The mission behind the brand

According to Gem Studio, the brand focuses heavily on community and humanitarian work.

A portion of profits supports international projects, including an orphanage in Uganda that cares for children who have lost their parents. Alongside this, they also contribute to

The brand also sells rings in-store that are made by young women in Nepal who have survived violence, with all proceeds going directly back to them.

Matt, the founder, was inspired to start the work after volunteering in Uganda. He then connected with a local partner to build an orphanage, which has now grown into long-term support for more than 60 children.

Although there isn’t an official opening date yet, this new spot will bring a more immersive, hands-on experience to CF Chinook Centre. And with a mission focused on giving back, you also have a fun time while supporting something meaningful.

When: Opening date TBA
Time: Mall Hours 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: CF Chinook Centre – 6455 Macleod Trl. SW, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: Starting at $75
