Toronto has a shiny new water shuttle across the harbourfront with low fares during the World Cup, Canada Reviews

5 June 20262 Mins Read

A new water shuttle on the Toronto waterfront will allow passengers to travel from the eastern edge at the Port Lands to Bathurst Quay in the west.

This new pilot project by the city of Toronto, Waterfront Toronto and the Toronto Port Authority connects three stops along Toronto’s Inner Harbour: Portland Slip (near Bathurst Quay Commons and Billy Bishop Airport), Yonge Slip, and Ookwemin Minising (Biidaasige Park).

The East-West Water Shuttle Pilot is run by York Bay Marine Services and will cost passengers $15. It will run seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m throughout the summer months, over a minimum three-year period. There could be extended hours based on demand.

Currently, departures are hourly and the shuttles can only carry 12 passengers. According to Waterfront Toronto, if demand is strong more vessels may be added, and departure times could increase to every 30 minutes.

East-West Shuttle launch in Toronto

“Toronto’s waterfront is one of our greatest assets, and initiatives like the East-West Water Shuttle pilot help people experience it in new and exciting ways,” said Mayor Olivia Chow. “This pilot is about testing how we can better connect our waterfront communities, improve mobility along the harbour, and give residents and visitors another way to enjoy our city’s public spaces. As we continue to build a more connected waterfront, we are focused on practical, people-centred solutions that bring Toronto closer together.”

Tickets an be purchased on site at the docks or online at eastwestshuttle.ca. There will also be reduced fares during the FIFA World Cup, June 12 to July 2, of $5 for a shuttle between Ookwemin Minising and Portland Slip, with extended hours from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
