Calgary is home to plenty of burgers that land firmly in the second category, with double patties, gooey cheese, and toppings stacked high between the buns.

We’ve rounded up 10 Calgary burger spots serving up some of the city’s most stacked creations, so get ready to need a few extra napkins.

Boogie’s Burgers has been a Calgary staple since 1969, and you can now find their burgers at two locations in Renfrew and Marda Loop.

The menu offers plenty of options for anyone who likes their burgers loaded up, including the BoogMak, which has two patties, cheddar cheese, pickles, sautéed mushrooms, grilled onions, and hot BBQ sauce. You can also customize your order in plenty of ways if one patty just isn’t going to cut it.

You’re going to need two hands for some of the creations at Class Clown Hamburgers. The Mission spot grinds its own chuck and brisket for its patties, then piles them high with toppings, sauces, and lots of cheese. This space fills up quickly, so get there early if you want to try it.

Burger 320 keeps things fresh and made from scratch, with brisket ground daily for its patties and house-made buns stamped with the restaurant’s name. The northeast Calgary spot lets you load your burger up in a few ways, including double-patty options and a selection of cheeses and sauces you can mix and match.

You’ll find Rocky’s Burgers inside a big red bus parked outside Crossroads Market, where this family-run spot has been serving up burgers since 1995. Unlike the towering creations you’ll find elsewhere on this list, Rocky’s goes for a big 8.5-ounce patty made with Alberta beef, making for one seriously filling burger.

Iyycburg’s Wall of Fame Burger is made with eight 3-ounce smash patties, melted with cheese and all the usual burger fixings, stacked into one tall spectacle. If you want something slightly more manageable, the Ultimate Beef Burger comes with mushrooms, Swiss cheese, a hash brown, onion rings, and iyycburg’s signature sauce.

On 17th Avenue, Meltro Burger serves brisket-based burgers with some pretty extravagant toppings. The Blue Temptations comes with maple beef bacon, blue cheese, caramelized onions, and Meltro sauce. This old-school Calgary drive-in has served up big burgers with 100 per cent Angus beef for years, and its menu has plenty of loaded options.
