The Calgary Underground Film Festival’s 12-Hour Halloween Horror Movie Marathon is coming to the Globe Cinema this month, with seven movies playing from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. the next day. The all-night event will also have a midnight costume contest, food vendors, a bar, and free breakfast before the final movie.
Before you commit to staying up till sunrise, here’s everything you can expect during the full 12-hour movie marathon.

What is happening at the 12-hour Halloween Horror Movie Marathon?
Hosted by the Calgary Underground Film Festival (CUFF), the night kicks off at 7 p.m. with a 10-minute intermission between each film. The Globe concession will be open throughout the night, serving hot dogs and soup, with burgers available during the midnight break.
At 11:45 p.m., the costume contest will take place, and the bar will stay open until 2 a.m. There will also be a free breakfast before the final film at 5:25 a.m.
What films can I see while I’m there?
Seven movies will screen throughout the night, spanning horror, comedy, sci-fi, and cult classics from several different decades. Here’s the full lineup:
- The Invisible Man (1933)
- A scientist discovers a way to become invisible, but the experiment sends him down a murderous path.
- The ‘Burbs (1989)
- Tom Hanks stars in this horror comedy about a suburban neighbourhood that becomes convinced the family next door is part of a cult.
- Twins of Evil (1971)
- This film follows twin sisters who move in with their uncle, a strict witch hunter who becomes suspicious of one sister after she is drawn into a local vampire’s world.
- Testuo: Iron Man (1986)
- A businessman begins transforming in strange ways after an encounter with a man obsessed with metal.
- From Beyond (1986)
- A group of scientists experiments with a machine that lets them see beyond the world we know, but it comes with unexpected consequences.
- Sleepwalkers (1992)
- Moving to a new town seems innocent enough for a mother and son, but their neighbours soon realize there’s something unusual about the pair.
- Troll 2 (1990)
- A family heads to a small town for vacation, only to discover the locals are actually goblins planning to eat them.
According to the Calgary Underground Film Festival, all film start times are approximate, and if you don’t want to miss a movie, they recommend arriving about 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
When is the Halloween Horror Movie Marathon?
The movie marathon will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24. The first movie starts at 7 p.m., and the marathon continues through the night until about 7 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25.
Where is the Halloween Horror Movie Marathon taking place?
The event will be hosted at the Globe Cinema in southwest Calgary. If you’re driving, a few parking options are nearby, including Centennial Parking (Lot 54) behind the theatre on 9th Avenue, where parking is $3 in the evenings after 4 p.m. and $3 during weekend daytime hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Limited street parking is also available on 8th Avenue outside the theatre, free after 6 p.m., though spots can be hard to find during CUFF events. If you’re taking transit, the Globe Cinema is about one block from 6th Street LRT Station.
How much are tickets?
Tickets for the 12-Hour Halloween Horror Movie Marathon are $25 plus fees for regular admission and $23 plus fees for CUFF members, students, and seniors. Tickets are on sale now, and admission covers the full seven-movie marathon, so you can come and go throughout the night.
A limited-edition Halloween Horror Movie Marathon T-shirt is also available to pre-order for pickup at the event. CUFF says only a limited number will be available for in-person purchase on the night of the marathon.
