A new gravity coaster will soon open on Grouse Mountain with sweeping views

6 May 20263 Mins Read

Thrill seekers ready for their next adventure will want to make plans to visit Grouse Mountain this spring, as a new attraction is gearing up for its big debut.

Grouse has announced that its new Gravity Coaster will open this spring, with guests of all ages able to hop aboard and discover the twists and turns.

The official opening date is expected to be revealed soon, as the Peak of Vancouver teased in a behind-the-scenes time-lapse video posted on social media.

“Located to the skier’s left of The Cut, adventurers will be taken on an exhilarating ride of twists and turns, weaving through a series of trees and exciting features before being greeted by an awe-inspiring view of Vancouver,” said Grouse Mountain online.

“The track is a permanent structure, and a closed circuit which will return guests to the mountaintop without having to exit the cart.”

The resort announced the gravity-fed mountain coaster as an annual seasonal attraction in 2024, with construction on the coaster first beginning in 2023.

Grouse Mountain’s permanent coaster will span a track length of 1,434 metres (4,700 ft) on a vertical descent of 919 metres (3,015 ft).

Its ascent of 515 metres (1,700 ft) returns the riders to the mountaintop without having to exit the ride vehicle. Riders will be able to reach speeds up to 45 km/hr (28 mi/hr).

Sections of the coaster, which will also reveal the cost to ride in the near future, include “Nose Dive,” “Tailspin,” and “The Chimney.”

Aquatic Development Group designed and manufactured the Grouse Gravity Coaster, which is being built with support from North Construction. The environmental study for the attraction, including a slope stability study, was completed by BA Blackwell.

A single rider must be at least 132 cm (4’4″) tall. Young children between the ages of three and eight must ride on the lap of an accompanying adult, be at least 92 cm (3′) tall, and be no taller than the driver’s shoulders.

The adult with whom a passenger rides must be at least 16 years old, and the maximum combined weight of both passengers is 140 kg or 310 lb.

Grouse Mountain added that its carts have been fitted with anti-collision technology, with safety features above what any other coaster in the province offers.

Additional rider and safety requirements can be found online.
