Accor and Orascom Development Egypt have signed a management agreement to reposition the Mövenpick El Gouna as Sofitel El Gouna Resort on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, with renovations scheduled to begin in 2027.
Accor and Orascom Development Egypt have entered into a management agreement to convert the existing Mövenpick El Gouna property into Sofitel El Gouna Resort. The project, developed in partnership with Orascom Development Egypt and Arabian Peninsula Hospitality, will begin a phased renovation program in 2027.
Sofitel El Gouna Resort will be located in El Gouna, a coastal town on the Red Sea. El Gouna is a 30-minute drive from Hurghada International Airport and within a five-hour direct flight of the United Kingdom and major European cities. The town features more than 18 hotels, five schools, a hospital, and business hubs, and is home to an international community representing over 50 nationalities. El Gouna receives approximately one million visitors annually.
The resort will be located on a beachfront peninsula with access to both the sea and a lagoon. Upon completion of renovations, Sofitel El Gouna Resort will feature 420 rooms and suites, multiple dining options, leisure and wellness facilities including a spa and fitness center, outdoor areas, and dedicated meeting and event spaces.
The repositioning of Mövenpick El Gouna as a Sofitel-branded property is described as a flagship project for the brand in Egypt. The development aligns with El Gouna’s strategy to create premium experiences for visitors and residents and is intended to support the town’s hospitality sector and appeal to international travelers.
Sofitel El Gouna Resort will join other Sofitel-branded properties in Egypt, including Sofitel Cairo El Gezirah and Sofitel Cairo Downtown Nile, which has 615 rooms. The brand is also progressing with Sofitel Legend Giza Pyramids, expected in 2028.
