Asus ROG Xreal R1 glasses are built for hardcore gamers

With a super-fast 240Hz refresh rate, lag is no longer a problem

On Monday, during its presentation for CES 2026, Asus-owned Republic of Gamers (ROG) announced a new collaboration with AR pioneer Xreal. The ROG Xreal R1 glasses feature plug-and-play microOLED displays that let you enjoy games — or movies, or even spreadsheets for the true sickos among us — on a virtual screen of up to 171 inches. But what sets these glasses apart from previous Xreal offerings is the refresh rate of 240Hz, which makes them more suitable for competitive and pro gamers.

The R1 glasses can connect directly to the ROG Ally with a USB-C cable — no separate charger or no tedious setup process required. While the R1s are designed to complement the Ally handheld line, they can also be used with phones, laptops, desktop PCs, and consoles. You can plug the glasses directly into a handheld, or use the included ROG Control Dock to switch between your Nintendo Switch, Windows PC, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5 with a couple clicks. Couch-loving console gamers should note that this is better suited to desktop setups, though.

Asus and Xreal also shared some key technical features in a news release:

  • World’s first 240Hz micro-OLED FHD (1920 x 1080) gaming glasses, with ROG Control Dock for HDMI® and DisplayPort™ connectivity to ensure compatibility with PCs and consoles
  • Connects to ROG Ally via a single USB-C cable for zero-setup, giant-screen experiences
  • 57° expanded view, projecting a 171-inch virtual screen at 4 meters covering 95% of the focused viewing area, with precise Anchor and Follow mode viewing options
  • Electrochromic technology allows the lenses to tint automatically or on demand to suit varying lighting conditions
  • Premium Sound by Bose enhances spatial awareness and in-game immersion

As we noted in our recent review of the Xreal 1S glasses, they’re endearingly easy to use for such bleeding-edge tech. You can alter the size of the virtual screen and its distance from you with just a couple button presses, while the nifty electrochromic technology allows you to control the tint of your glasses and the opacity of the virtual screen at will. Even if you’re a wearable skeptic, these glasses are pretty damn cool. Also, they have a spiffy red power indicator on the arm that’s reminiscent of the Nintendo Power Glove (complementary).

The ROG Xreal R1 glasses will ship in the first half of 2026. Asus has not yet revealed the price, but expect something higher than the less-powerful Xreal 1S at $449.
