Auditions (Edmonton): The Last 1.5 Librarians North of Lethbridge – Agonist Productions, Theater News

15 May 20262 Mins Read

Agonist Productions is searching for actors for the musical The Last 1.5 Librarians North of Lethbridge for its 2026 Edmonton Fringe Festival production.

SYNOPSIS:
Written by Anna Leslie with music composed by Michael Long, The Last 1.5 Librarians North of Lethbridge is a lighthearted, apocalyptic musical comedy about (almost) two librarians. Unrelentingly positive Frankie recruits a curmudgeonly former librarian to help establish the first post-apocalyptic library. Together, they’ll tackle cataloguing, craft programming, renovation, and archiving as they preserve what’s left of humanity’s knowledge in a little free library.

CHARACTERS:

FRANKIE (they/them): an aspiring librarian whose schooling was interrupted by the apocalypse. Bubbly, outgoing, and idealistic, Frankie envisions themself as a guardian of memory. Frankie relentlessly strives for perfection, often to their own detriment.
*transgender and gender diverse performers are encouraged to apply.

JEAN (she/her): a former librarian, older. World-weary and bitter, traits she had long before the apocalypse. She is a lesbian and a widow. Jean reflects the world around her. In the unforgiving wasteland, she is cold and pessimistic. She is a little old-school and surprisingly tough.

REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES:
The rehearsal schedule will be created after casting based on the availability of the team. Rehearsals will officially begin in June, with there being 2-3 rehearsals weekly until the Edmonton Fringe Festival in August.

The festival will run from August 13-23, with 8 shows throughout its duration.

Following the festival, the entire team will be compensated using a profit share model.

AUDITIONS:
Video Auditions will be accepted until Thursday, May 14th.

Please submit the following to [email protected]:
– A video clip (approximately one minute in length) showcasing your vocal range/abilities and your acting range/abilities uploaded as an MP4, Google Drive link, or YouTube link. Please select a title from a musical of your choice.
– Please briefly introduce yourself and the song you will be singing at the start of your video.
– You may sing to a recorded track, live accompaniment, or a cappella.
– A current headshot uploaded as jpeg, png, or pdf
– Your theatre resume including past projects and your roles uploaded as docx or pdf

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to shoot us an email at [email protected].

Many thanks,
Agonist Productions
