‘Blood Coast’ Officially Renewed for Season 3 at Netflix

6 January 20262 Mins Read

Following its return in early December, the six episodes of Blood Coast (Pax Massilia) further deepened the Marseille crime drama’s mythology. Entirely directed by Olivier Marchal, the new episodes were co-written by veteran showrunner Olivier Dujols and returning writers from season 1.

While the shoot for the second season was done extensively throughout Marseille and its surrounding areas, fans no longer have to wonder if the Gaumont Télévision-produced drama has a future. It is now official: Season 3 is happening.

The announcement comes just under a month after the sophomore season debuted in December 2025, marking a quick turnaround that suggests strong performance for the French thriller.

Leading up to this official greenlight, all signs pointed toward a renewal. Creator Olivier Marchal had previously hinted at a third season during media appearances, noting in Télé-Loisirs on December 15th that “Season 3 will be even better! We plan to shoot abroad, but I can’t disclose more.”

Recent reports from La Provence had also confirmed that scripts were already in development, a strategy often used by Netflix to reduce the wait time between seasons for its hit shows.

How long the show lasts is another story, though. It’s no secret that the show bled quite a lot of its viewership between seasons 1 and 2, with season 2 featuring the top 10s for 2 weeks, picking up 19.6M viewing hours and 3.8M completed viewing equivalents, which is roughly down 60% on the season prior. The show featured in the weekly top 10s of 11 countries this time around, including in France for 3 weeks. For comparison, season 1 featured in the weekly charts of 70 countries.

Netflix Viewership Data – 2 Week Analysis

Title Cumulative Views (2 weeks) Rank
Blood Coast – Season 1 9,400,000 1
Blood Coast – Season 2 3,800,000 2

Production appears ready to ramp up immediately. Days before the Season 2 premiere, casting calls went out for extras in the Marseille area for dates between January and May 2026, aligning perfectly with this renewal news. With Marchal now a resident of Marseille and deeply attached to the city’s gritty backdrop, viewers can expect the next chapter to maintain the show’s signature intensity.
