‘Boy Meets World’ Star Reacts to Her Most Memorable Throwback Photos: ‘I Was Very Self-Conscious'

Danielle Fishel became an icon after appearing as Topanga Lawrence on Boy Meets World, which aired from 1993 until 2000. On July 5, the star posted an Instagram video where she reacted to some of the most memorable photos that have been taken of her throughout her career.

“Every now and then, I see a photo, and I go, ‘I’ve never even seen that photo of me!’” the actress said at the start of the video. “I thought that today it might be fun to blind react to some throwback photos.”

Her first photo showed her in a pink lace dress with a brown jacket. “Oh, my gosh. My famous ‘Danielle on a red carpet, ‘90s pose,’” she said. “First of all, I remember how everything lace dresses were.” She added, “I was very self-conscious of my arm, so I always had a jacket on.”

Another photo, which was published by the magazine Tiger Beat, showed her wearing a crop top. This shot also reminded her of some insecurities. “When I look at that picture, the only thing I think is, I have no neck,” she revealed. “My shoulders are so high up in my neck. Again, probably because I was self-conscious of my arms.”

Her next photo was another where she was rocking a crop top. “I remember feeling, like, I was fat,” she admitted. “I remember looking at that, wearing that little crop top, thinking, I shouldn’t be wearing this crop top, and being very self-conscious. There’s no way I weigh more than, like, 88 pounds there.”

One commenter on the video said, “First of all, it is great to hear that even a beautiful actress like you gets self-conscious!” Another said, “Always beautiful, Danielle. We are definitely our harshest critics, but someone put those voices in our heads.”
