If you’ve been thinking about taking a trip to Mexico, WestJet just unlocked a whole new destination from Calgary.
The Calgary-based airline announced on Monday the addition of a non-stop flight to Merida from the YYC Calgary Airport to its lineup.
“We know that Calgarians are always eager for direct flights south, and this new weekly flight to Merida puts another sunny vacation spot on the map,” said Balazs Bogats, chief commercial officer at Calgary Airports, in a release.
The new service between Calgary and Merida will run once a week, with flights set to take off starting on Dec. 17, 2026, and marks WestJet’s first-ever service to Merida from YYC.
“The weekly route will serve as the only non-stop connection point between the cultural capital of Yucatán and Western Canada, providing unmatched access to the rich history, famous architecture and distinct cuisine of Mexico’s safest city,” the release said.
During the peak winter travel season, WestJet will now serve 50 sun destinations from 15 Canadian cities, the most out of any other Canadian airline.
If you’re already looking at a winter getaway, now might be the perfect time to start planning a trip to a new sunny destination.
It’s been a busy year for YYC, with Flair Airlines announcing new Mexico flights from Calgary, WestJet announcing three new domestic flights, and Air Canada also adding new Mexico flights to its lineup.
