Greggs Will Open Its First Bakery Outside of the UK in Tenerife, Canada Reviews

12 May 20262 Mins Read

Sinking your teeth into unfamiliar dishes is one of the best things about being on holiday, but sometimes nothing hits like a taste of home.

And if to you, a taste of home involves a reasonably priced baked good, then we’ve got some brilliant news: Greggs is opening a branch in Spain.

Yes, you did in fact read that right – just months after British pub conglomerate Wetherspoons opened its first ever branch on Spanish shores (in Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport), the Geordie bakery chain will also be going international.

ICYMI: What’s the latest with the jet fuel crisis? How your summer holiday might be affected.

Where, we hear you cry? Tenerife South Airport, that’s where. Set to open on the departures side of the hub, Javier Cagigal, chief executive of Lagardere Travel Retail Spain (who are partnering with Greggs) told The Sun that ‘we’re confident our great-value offering will resonate just as well under the Spanish sun as it does on the UK high street.’

Given that the island typically welcomes around 13 million travellers each year, and roughly 50 percent of them are from the UK, it definitely makes sense as a place for the company to ‘test spreading our wings in an overseas setting.’

The menu will reportedly comprise classic items like sandwiches, sweet treats, and hot bakes, but also some more – shall we say, locally inspired – bites, such as a Spanish Omelette Roll.

No opening date has been confirmed yet, but you can bet your sausage roll that we’ll keep you posted on this story.

🏞️ Here are the best Canary Islands to visit in 2026, ranked by an expert.

Plus: A controversial private island resort in Europe is re-opening this summer.
