GTA meets Crazy Taxi in the weirdest new game of 2026

Rockstar’s highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 is a little more than three months away from its Nov. 19 release date. While we’ve seen a couple of cinematic trailers, we still haven’t seen any official gameplay footage of 2026’s biggest game. If you’re itching for a bit of free-wheeling vehicular manslaughter in the meantime, Truck-kun is Supporting Me from Another World?!, from developer Strange Scaffold, is here to fill the void.

Yes, the title is a mouthful. But the premise behind Truck-kun is actually pretty simple. A humble delivery driver (Driver, that’s you) accidentally hits a corporate girlboss named Carissa with his truck, sending her to a Dragon Quest-inspired fantasy realm. In order to help Carissa return to the real world, you need to inflict as much bloodless carnage with your delivery truck as possible. Truck-kun wisely doesn’t belabor the plot, keeping the banter between Driver and Carissa brief and snappy.

Don’t get too bogged down in the isekai of it all; the point of Truck-kun is to crash into as many things as possible in order to extend your run and collect stars. In the top-right corner of the screen, you’ll see a randomized list of challenges and rewards. These challenges are simple and varied, like driving in reverse for 100 meters, hitting five parked cars, or delivering a package to a specific location on the map, in the vein of Sega’s soon-to-be-revived Crazy Taxi series. The more challenges you complete on a given run, the more stars and extra time you’ll earn. A default run will give you 90 seconds of mayhem, but once I got the hang of the controls and became familiar with the map, my runs averaged between five and seven minutes. When a siren sounds to alert you there’s just one minute left, those frantic final moments can feel a lot like Katamari Damacy, where you’re flailing around causing as much carnage as possible before the whistle blows.

The driving controls are basic, yet intuitive: you can accelerate, reverse, boost, honk, and drift. You can also sideswipe nearby objects by pressing the shoulder buttons, zooming directly perpendicular to the left or right from your current position. I’m pretty sure delivery trucks aren’t actually that nimble in real life, but it’s a fun gimmick that keeps the action lively. You’ll have to get more aggressive with your driving the longer your run extends, as you’ll attract more police attention as you mow down people and objects. It adds a whiff of GTA-like action to the proceedings, although it’s more silly than overtly violent.

The options menu allows for some slight adjustments to steering sensitivity and has an auto-accelerate toggle, though the latter seems to create more problems than it solves, making it impossible to slow down for the occasional precise turn or delivery. If you get stuck in a corner — or just don’t want to bother with making fiddly maneuvers — holding down on the D-pad will quickly spawn your truck somewhere nearby with a bit more wiggle room, which is a handy quality-of-life feature.

When you drive into toddling pedestrians, they’ll be sent to Carissa’s fantasy world in the form of slimes, dragons, and skeletons to fight. This plays out in a side-scrolling minigame at the bottom of the screen. Similarly, when you hit objects like cars and street lights, you’ll fill up Carissa’s sword meter. When the sword meter is full, honk your horn to trigger her super attack and collect even more stars. With all the chaos happening on-screen at any given moment, it can be easy to forget to honk until you realize you’ll have to clear a series of escalating milestones across all your runs in order to progress. Early on, you’ll hit these targets simply by goofing around in your truck. But later milestones can feel more grindy, like getting 25 stars in a single run or boosting 12,500 meters.

Truck-kun is Supporting Me from Another World?! is a compact experience, with a runtime of about four to five hours. The game gets a lot of mileage out of just one map, by varying your starting points for each run and clustering dozens of specific object types in specific areas. Familiarity with that map will help you improve on each run; for instance, if one of your objectives is to take out parked cars, you’ll want to zip toward a parking lot, whereas if you’re looking for hedges, you’ll want to head for the residential area.

Rather than burrowing into the game for hours on end, Truck-kun is best enjoyed in short sessions. Though it easily could have been bogged down by overexplaining its premise, Strange Scaffold’s latest wisely keeps the focus on arcade hijinks. While I would have loved another map or two to explore, there’s plenty of good, dumb fun to be had here for under $20.
