Internova Travel Group has released data showing strong cruise demand for 2026, with notable growth in interest from younger travelers and those seeking short cruises and expedition-style voyages. The findings are based on analysis of millions of travel bookings and a survey of 4,000 North American travelers across generations and income levels, as detailed in The Internova Index: North American Traveler Insights.

The research indicates that while traditional ocean cruises remain the most popular option, there is a shift toward new cruise formats. These include short getaway cruises and expedition voyages to destinations such as Antarctica, the Arctic, and the Galápagos. The report notes a rise in interest among Millennials and Gen Z, groups that have historically been less represented in cruise travel.

Travel advisors within Internova’s network report that younger travelers are often new to cruising and are seeking voyages of five days or less. These shorter cruises are seen as compatible with busy schedules and limited paid time off, serving as an entry point for new cruise customers.

The Internova Index also shows a broadening of interest in high-end cruise options. One-third of survey respondents expressed interest in luxury yacht cruises and expedition-style voyages. Demand for these trips is particularly strong among affluent and adventure-seeking travelers. These cruises feature small-ship operations, specialized itineraries, and access to remote destinations.

The report identifies pricing trends within the cruise market. Prices for expedition cruises have increased the most, attributed to high demand and limited capacity. Other cruise products have also seen price increases, but at a more moderate level. The growth in shorter itineraries is noted as providing a lower-cost alternative for travelers.

Despite the expansion of new cruise styles, mainstream ocean cruising continues to account for the largest share of the market, with Boomers making up a significant share of customers. These travelers are more likely to choose longer itineraries, reflecting greater schedule flexibility.

The research also highlights a trend toward travelers booking cruises through advisors. Travelers value advisor expertise in cabin selection, ship amenities, and navigating the range of cruise offerings. Advisors are also consulted for guidance on lesser-known yacht and expedition brands, as well as for support in the event of itinerary changes or disruptions.
