Back to the grind! For millions, you’ll be heading back to school or work this week with another festive holiday in the history books. As we get into the swing of January, Netflix has a bunch of new releases this week that should blow away the January blues.

On the removals front this week, all of DreamWorks’ Captain Underpants series, including all three seasons of the main show and its Christmas and space spin-offs, are leaving on January 9th. The Maze Runner trilogy from 20th Century Fox will depart on January 10th, and the excellent Polish animated film The Peasants departs on the 12th.

For more on what’s still to come throughout January 2026, keep it locked here on What’s on Netflix. Also, don’t forget that while this week is a little light on releases, we’re expecting a big drop of news from Netflix about the 2026 slate, courtesy of What Next (previously known as Next on Netflix), planned for January 7th.

What to Watch on Netflix This Week

Under the Silver Lake (2018)

Added to Netflix: Monday

We’ve seen a bunch of A24 movies drop to kick off the New Year, and among the better ones added is Under the Silver Lake, a mystery thriller with a hint of horror headlined by Andrew Garfield and Riley Keough. It comes from David Robert Mitchell, who had worked on It Follows in 2014 before this project and has a number of new projects in the works.

The plot revolves around a drifting twenty-something who becomes obsessed with a mysterious woman he meets during a late-night swim at his apartment complex. When she vanishes without a trace the next morning, his search pulls him into a dreamlike maze of Los Angeles, where hidden messages, buried scandals, and paranoid conspiracies lurk beneath the city’s sunlit surface.

11.22.63 (Limited Series)

Coming to Netflix: Wednesday

Picture: Hulu

We’ve seen a handful of Hulu Originals come to Netflix in recent years, and the latest is one of the earliest limited series to ever grace the streamer, with it being an adaptation of one of Stephen King’s most beloved novels. Released a decade ago, 11.22.63 follows the exploits of Jake Epping, who is shown a secret portal in the back of a diner that allows him to travel back to a specific point in time. Using that, he opts to continue the mission of Al Templeton by agreeing to catch the killer of JFK before it happens. The eight episodes are slickly made, and James Franco, who leads the cast alongside Daniel Webber, George Mackay, and Chris Cooper, is excellent here.

People We Meet on Vacation (2025)

Coming to Netflix: Friday

Netflix has two massive movies planned for release in January: The Rip, which just got a trailer, and People We Meet on Vacation. It brings to life the book by Emily Henry, with Brett Haley directing and Emily Bader, Tom Blyth, Sarah Catherine Hook, Lucien Laviscount, Miles Heizer, and Jameela Jamil leading the cast.

The official logline for the movie reads, “Free-spirited Poppy and routine-loving Alex have been unlikely best friends for a decade, living in different cities but spending every summer vacation together. The careful balance of their friendship is put to the test when they begin to question what has been obvious to everyone else — could they actually be the perfect romantic match?”
