‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Hits Another Viewing Milestone As One-Year Anniversary Approaches

Netflix may be prepping another theatrical run for KPOP Demon Hunters, as a UK cinema revealed it’s showing the sing-along version again, just ahead of the movie’s one-year anniversary. That’s in addition to the news that the movie has now surpassed another viewing milestone, reaching 1 billion viewing hours on the streaming service globally.

Let’s begin with the viewership news: As you already may know, the movie smashed Netflix’s all-time movie record for its first 91 days on the streamer, toppling Red Notice, which had held the spot for many years. Since then, the movie has consistently featured in the weekly top 10s and, in recent weeks, surpassed a major milestone: 1 billion viewing hours on Netflix.

As we’ve covered numerous times before, KPOP Demon Hunters took a different route to reach Netflix’s all-time top 10. In its initial release week (Jun 15 – Jun 22, 2025), the title pulled in a respectable, but not Earth-shattering, 15.4 million hours watched (9.2M CVE/Views), landing at #2 on the charts. Then came the word-of-mouth explosion. In Week 2, viewership skyrocketed by an unbelievable 162%, rocketing the film to 40.3 million hours watched and securing the #1 spot. From there, it didn’t just peak and drop; it hit a “Plateau of Excellence.” For ten consecutive weeks, the title consistently pulled in over 37 million hours viewed.

Even more shocking? The title didn’t hit its absolute peak until Week 11 (Aug 24 – Aug 31), pulling in an all-time high of 50.2 million hours watched.

By The Numbers: The KPOP Demon Hunters Run

Weeks at #1 9 Weeks
Weeks in the Top 3 29 Weeks
Week 11 Peak 50.2M Hours Watched / 30.1M Views
Current Rank (Week 46) #5

You can see the full trajectory of the viewership here.

The true testament to KPOP Demon Hunters‘ staying power is its remarkably low decay rate. To put things in perspective, most Netflix Originals are completely gone from the charts by Week 10.

By Week 20 (late October 2025), KPOP Demon Hunters was still commanding 23.3 million hours watched, comfortably sitting at #2 globally.

Furthermore, the data shows incredible seasonal resilience. Right around the holiday season (Weeks 28 and 29), the film actually saw its viewership increase by 15% and 4%, respectively. This indicates that it became a prime choice for family holiday binges and repeat viewing—a massive win for Netflix’s catalog retention.

It took a staggering 34 weeks for the movie to finally dip below the 10 million hours-watched floor.

As of Week 46 (late April to early May 2026), the movie remains at #5 with 6.5 million hours watched. It is currently retaining nearly 42% of its premiere-week viewership nearly a year later—a metric practically unheard of in the SVOD space.

Based on its gentle 5-7% weekly decline, KPOP Demon Hunters is officially on track to cross the 52-week (one full year) milestone in the global Top 10.

Netflix Prepping Big Theatrical Return for One-Year Anniversary?

Cineworld, a chain based in the United Kingdom, posted this morning that the movie is getting a special return to theaters (it’s already had three separate runs thus far) this June, just shortly ahead of its one-year anniversary on June 20th. The news came with a special new trailer cut suggesting a wider rollout may be imminent:

The official theatrical website for the movie can be found here, which lists dates and times for many UK theaters, but not any for the United States as far as we could see right now. We’ll update you should we hear more!

Elsewhere in KPop Demon Hunters News…

Not much news on the sequel front since the streamer officially confirmed it was in the works a couple of months ago. It’s going to take time, with it unlikely to return until at least 2030. There were rumors late last year about an animated short that got rated, although we poured some cold water on that at the time, suggesting it was a student project that may not see the light of day. The streamer has added additional side-content, though, including lyric videos, bonus content, and even a fireplace over Christmas.

Lots of other news regarding KPop Demon Hunters, elsewhere, though. Time revealed yesterday that Netflix is prepping an official comic book for sale, in addition to an art book, which will both go on sale just before the Thanksgiving/Christmas season on November 3rd and September 8th, respectively. Here’s what you can expect from the comic per the official description by Penguin Random House:

“The ultimate collector’s item for superfans of KPop Demon Hunters, this deluxe screen comic transforms the Academy Award-winning Netflix film into a two-volume graphic novel adaptation featuring:

– The complete film in over 700 pages of full-color comics
– Song lyrics from the full soundtrack, including the Hunter’s Mantra and Jinu’s Lament
– Holographic foil slipcase
– Two paperback volumes with French flaps
– Two unique foil-stamped book covers
– Unified spine design showing Rumi’s two sides
– Two foldout posters of HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys

HUNTR/X is here to seal the Honmoon and show you how it’s done—this time from your bookshelf! This official boxed set brings the award-winning Netflix film to life as a gorgeous complete screen comic, including song lyrics!

Love the movie but want to look even closer? Now you can savor each frame, marvel at the artwork, and relive all your favorite lines from the script and songs. Experience the story in a brand-new way as it pops off the page with imaginatively designed speech bubbles, sound effects, and comic panels.”

Expect lots more collaborations and merchandise on the way, though, as Netflix looks to continue exploiting the movie’s surprise success, which Sony Pictures’ head said he had no regrets about selling to Netflix. ComicBook.com took a look at some of the additional content and collabs that have been released, including the very well-publicized McDonald’s collab.

Would you go watch KPOP Demon Hunters again in theaters this summer? Let us know in the comments.
