Melissa Rivers isn’t naming names—but she remembers exactly what she said when a major actress confronted her over Fashion Police.
During an appearance on the McBride Rewind podcast, Rivers recalled encountering a celebrity who wasn’t pleased about the show’s critique of her red-carpet look.
“I’ve had a big actress confront me at a party,” Rivers said. Her response was direct: “I didn’t like your dress.”
Rivers, 58, also remembered a particularly uncomfortable flight she took with her late mother, Joan Rivers, the morning after an awards show.
The pair had already filmed Fashion Police before boarding a flight from Los Angeles to New York. Then an actress whose outfit they had criticized walked onto the plane.
The three women knew each other, exchanged hugs and chatted during the flight. Joan and the actress even discovered they were reading the same book.
Meanwhile, Melissa knew the celebrity would soon hear exactly what they had said about her dress.
Rivers defended the series by emphasizing that its hosts critiqued clothing choices—not someone’s character.
“We’re not saying that you drown puppies,” she said. “You made a bad choice.”
Rivers acknowledged that there is likely “a painful list” of celebrities who felt insulted by the program. Still, she believes viewers conducted similar post-awards-show fashion debates privately with friends.
“The difference was we did it out loud,” she said.
Fashion Police began as an awards-season special before becoming a weekly E! series in 2010. Joan hosted the program until her death in 2014, while Melissa worked behind the scenes as an executive producer and later joined the on-air panel.
