Moments Fest is bringing two days of punk music to Siksika Nation

27 August 20253 Mins Read

Are you ready to enjoy some good-ol’-fashioned, lip-splitting punk music on the traditional territories of the Siksika nation?

Moments Fest is coming up soon, and if you’ve been looking for an excuse to don the Doc’s and let loose, this might just be it.

Since 2014, Moments Fest Music has been bringing exciting and diverse music programming to Siksika Nation. Over the past decade, it’s grown into a two-day weekend festival with performers and attendees travelling to the community from across North America.

Siksika Nation is part of the Blackfoot Confederacy, home of the signing of the Blackfoot Treaty (commonly referred to as Treaty 7), which was signed in 1877. The community has approximately 8,000 members and is the second-largest First Nation in Canada.

Moments Fest is just one example of the innovative ways Indigenous communities are bringing tourism and live music experiences together. Located one hour east of Calgary, Moments Fest will take place from Saturday, Aug. 30 to Sunday, Aug. 31 at the Siksika Piiksapi Memorial Arbour Grounds.

What to expect

Since 2014, Moments Fest has earned its chops as one of the best underground punk festivals in the province.

From Saturday, Aug. 30 to Sunday, Aug. 31, the festival will bring over 30 acts to the Buffalo and Deerfoot stages, representing everything from four-chord punk to noise rock, sludge metal, and alternative country.

Many of the bands are emerging and underground acts that are just starting to grow a following on streaming platforms and social media, which means you can experience them at Moments Fest before they blow up internationally.

The festival has a definite punk feel, with a collection of lesser-known bands performing on intimate stages. The festival’s campground brings it all together in a community-like atmosphere that is friendly and welcoming.

Still, you’ll have a chance to thrash along to plenty of home-grown acts, including southern Alberta’s Astrology Girl, No More Moments, and The Break Ins.

You can expect moshing, high-energy live shows and an intimate group of punk rockers ready to hurl spit at Moments Fest.

The festival has also recently expanded its programming, offering elder mentoring, skateboarding, a pow wow and dance demonstrations. It emphasizes the festival’s commitment to growth at the convergence of Indigenous and punk culture.

Get ready to throw your fist in the air and head on down to Moments Fest this weekend. We’ll see you there!

When: Saturday, Aug. 30 to Sunday, Aug. 31
Where: Siksika Pow Wow Arbor — Highway 901 Siksika Nation
Cost: $40+
