Montreal Reports 7.3% Increase in Visitors for 2025

Tourisme Montréal reported 11.8 million visitors in 2025, a 7.3% increase from 2024, with stable tourism spending and growth in hotel capacity.

Tourisme Montréal’s 2025 year-end report shows the city welcomed 11.8 million visitors, up 7.3% from 2024. The year unfolded in two phases: a spring marked by uncertainty, followed by a steady recovery in visitor numbers.

Domestic travel drove growth, with the Canadian market up 10%, led by a 17% increase from Atlantic provinces. U.S. visits declined 12% in July but ended the year with a 5% overall decrease. Overseas markets grew by 2%. France set a new record with more than 470,000 visitors, a 2% increase from 2024.

Travelers booked trips about 50 days in advance, compared to roughly 90 days in previous years.

Tourism spending in Montréal remained stable at $5.8 billion in 2025, similar to 2024. Food and accommodations accounted for nearly 75% of total tourism revenue.

The hotel sector saw occupancy improve through the year, with more than 90 days recording rates above 80%, a 7% increase over 2024. Hotel capacity rose 4% compared with the previous year, expanding the city’s accommodation inventory.

Tourisme Montréal’s website, mtl.org, recorded 11.8 million visits in 2025, a 14.5% increase from 2024.

Looking ahead to 2026, major events include the UCI Road World Championships from September 20 to 27, the Formula 1 Grand Prix in May, and a renewed festival season with an ambitious lineup.
