We’ve learned that I am a hero too, the tenth-anniversary anime short spin-off of My Hero Academia, will premiere at AnimeExpo before airing in Japan and arriving on streaming platforms about a month later.

A post on My Hero Academia’s official website, I am a hero too will be screened for the first time at Anime Expo 2026, which will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center between July 2 and July 5. A My Hero Academia-specific panel has not been added to AX 2026’s schedule as of the time of publication, so we don’t know the exact date and time of its premiere yet.

After that, it will be shown in theaters in Japan on Aug. 1 and Aug. 2 during special “Character Matchup” series screenings of popular My Hero Academia episodes. Finally, it will arrive on streaming platforms on Aug. 3.

I am a hero too is an anime short that takes place after My Hero Academia’s series finale and follows Eri’s escapades in high school. It’s based on a one-shot manga that Kohei Horikoshi authored for My Hero Academia: Ultra Age. This epilogue episode was first teased as part of the My Hero Academia anime’s tenth-anniversary celebrations earlier this month, but the lack of details in the initial announcement made me assume its premiere and streaming release were far off.

It’s coming out sooner than expected, thankfully, making this a nice treat for My Hero Academia fans yearning for more episodes after the show’s finale. That said, we still haven’t gotten a trailer or seen any animation for I am a hero too despite the announcement of the release date.

Although we’ve yet to see much of I am a hero too, My Hero Academia fans attending Anime Expo should be excited to see this short premiere early, while the rest of us only have to wait less than three months to watch it ourselves.
