One of Canada’s largest living history museums reopens in Edmonton this May

8 May 20263 Mins Read

Opening May 16, you can expect another season of historical adventures at Fort Edmonton Park this year.

Fort Edmonton Park is one of Edmonton’s most historic places. The Fort acts as its own time travel portal into the late 1800s. Throughout the winter and fall, it runs a couple of programs, but in the summer, the park truly comes to life. If you’re looking to get the full experience of the park, this is definitely the time to be going.

I can’t wait for the official reopening of the season. I know for a fact that not only the Park is going to burst with energy, but the city as well.

What to expect

When you enter the park, you’re greeted with the 1919 Baldwin Steam engine. This train ride is included in the entry, and it’s one that you absolutely can’t pass up on. It whisks you from the Park’s train station at the front of the Park to the train platform at the back near the 1846 Fort.

Near the front of the park is also Johnny J. Jones Exposition, the incredible 1900s midway. There’s been some cool rides added since I last went. For example, they added a big Ferris wheel (not to be confused with the original, smaller 1920s version), as well as the Cabinet of Curios.

Anyways, what you’re really here to do is explore all the history within the park. There are so many eras of history scattered around; you can find a full list of all the attractions on the Fort’s website.

Not to mention, you can also add a wagon ride or pony ride to your experience to make it all the more magical. Wagon rides last 10 minutes and take you for a scenic ride past the pond and the Fort. Pony rides are also available, as well as a vis-à-vis ride, which will take you through the Fort’s historical eras for 20 minutes.

If you’re looking for your daily dose of history, Fort Edmonton Park is just waiting for your arrival. Summer keeps getting closer, so make sure to have your calendars ready. You won’t want to miss another season at the Fort.

Take a trip, you won’t regret it.

When: Opening Saturday, May 16, 2026, to Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026
Time:
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Wednesday to Sunday
Where:
7000 143rd St. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Cost: $27.90
